I've been seeing the word "Desi" most of the time especially on forums. I think it's an Indian thing. I think it pertains to a girl. How about "Nisha"?

" Desi" is not the name of any girl. In the Indian language of Hindi it means belonging to ones country or countrymade. Just as you would say"foreign" if a product would belong to a country other than yours.By the way "Nisha" is the name of a girl.

Dessicated coconut is used While preparing and cooking a number of curries in India. It is widely used in The southern States of India. Usually fresh coconuts are broken open and the white substance inside is shredded manually using a kind of sickle .This shredded or dessicated coconut which is very fine is used in curries. It is indeed a speciality of India.Nowadays readymade dessicated coconut is available across the counter in shops in urban centres and many housewives use it extensively as it saves a lot of time but it cannot compare in taste to the handmade variety since it is not fresh and sometimes has a stale smell. I used to see my mother preparing dessicated coconut in the manner i have mentioned earlier.

Desi is an Indian term which means originally countrymade. Desi can apply to anything, not particularly a person. It could be desi clothes, desi butter etc. In short anything that is not imported is desi. Hope it clarifies your quest.

yes, desi generally refers to being indian - can be a person or a thing - Like A DESI car - which would mean an indian car. It's what the word desi generally refers to on the internet. Nisha is a female name in india.

Desi is now an English word like dosa and chutney. It means something made in ones own country, something original, authentic, of the land. ;) Nisha is the name of a girl. The 11th edition of the Oxford dictionary has added plenty of Indian deshi words into it. So all these words are English. Cheers and happy Mylotting
