The Naked and the Innocent

Fashion and style has invaded the world by storm and you have only to see the fashions worn by the actresses during the film festivals or during the presentation of academy awards to see how creative designers are in the art of designs. There are people who choose to wear decently from head to toe and there are others who feel comfortable wearing sexy cloths with barely enough cloths to cover their upper and lower parts of their bodies. They bare it all to see, to the delight of the photographers and reporters. That is but in the name of fashion.
But let me bring you to the innocent side of the picture to the third world country who have never heard of the word fashion let alone understand the obscenity of their dressing. The traditional way of dressing among the women of a hill tribe was to leave the upper part of their bodies bare. They did not draw any attention among their men who went about their daily duties as they had been doing for generations. However, when they were about to be visited by some officials undertaking a study on their way of life, the young girls were told by their chieftain to hide themselves. They were safe among the men of their tribe, but there was no telling what the so called educated and civilized world would do to them. Naturally, someone who has grown up in the woods and in the company of the same stork is not going to understand the need to cover up. It would not have made sense for her to wear swim suits while she bathed. In another she is duped by a rowdy group of boys to lift up her dress, exactly the way a little girl might do thinking that this was a game. One feels immediately the pain of exploitation. I just wonder why these tribesman are not easily sexually stimulated but believe that outsiders would be stimulated by their women in bare?

You have raised a very interesting point. It is difficult to understand the psychology of tribesman behind this thought of theirs. I think they become used to amongst themselves, seeing each other, without clothes day in and day out and when anything is 'open' and is not hidden, it gradually loses its importance. I feel desire to see something gets hightened, when it is hidden from your either partially or fully. Like-wise, they people might be thinking that an outsider remains covered (in clothes) and he is not used to see naked persons everyday or easily, so seeing a naked woman or a girl might excite him. Tribal people must be knowing a little bit of human psychology and how a human mind work, therefore, they hide the girls, when some outsiders visit them.
Good Post!

Yes, they are more protective and do not wish others to see their women in their natural conditions. I agree with your point of view.

I think it's what you are acustom to and the men were probubly more exposed to outsiders and knew that their custome would be misunderstood because they had seenwomen of other cultures. It would only have taken one man to bring this information into the tribe. Humans are excited by the unknown and so react to the
things about each other's bodies that are hidden.

Hi Zandi this is really a thought provoking discussion.Well the fact is the tribals are more decent and respect their women .They would never dare to exploit women and have simple needs and simple desires. But in the modern scenario, women are looked upon as objects of desire and lust and men try to take undue advantage. But I am afraid, women too are to be blamed to a certain extent too and they often throw modesty and caution to the wind and end up underdressed and pathetically attired all in the name of fashion, fame and name...

Yes, the tribal women are innocent and did not think that their dressing are indecent. That is their way of life. While in this modern world women take advantage of the current fashion, the least cloths they wear the sexier they feel and the more they get the attention from onlookers.

The civilized men hardly get a chance to view the naked body(other than spouse), hence he will be stimulated on seeing a naked women. Whereas the tribal men is used to nakedness daily. Probably the tribal men will be stimulated seeing the women with modern dress.

The actresses of the modern world do the dirty things just to earn more money and popularity. Ont he other hand the tribesmen do so because they are ancient in thinking. Also on the hiding incident, I would suggest that they might have had experience of people comming from outside who seeing the unknowingness of the tribal girles might have misused them and so the cheiftain thoughtit better to hide the girls.
