so its been over three months now since I started taking Champix in order to quit smoking. I was recommended it by the practice nurse when I came asking for help to quit. I have to say I was dubious and didn't know if it would work as I had already tried the patches and the gum without any success not to mention cold turkey which lasted all of three days before I became a nightmare to be around!
So for those of you who dont know, you start off on 1/2mg a day and keep smoking..I had gone in all fired up thinking i would be quitting that day so the thought that I was ALLOWED to smoke for another 10 days was kinda cool but strangely an anticlimax...anyways, as the days went on I started to notice i wasnt craving a smoke as much. I would light up thinking I did whilst on the xomputer or something and it would burn out!
The way it works is it blocks the release of dopamine (sp?) from your brain. This is what makes you crave the nicotine so with it blocked, no withdrawal symptoms or cravings! By the time my quit date (pre arranged with the nurse) came, It was no big deal to just stop..so far so good right?
I dj at the weekeneds and looke forward to nipping out to chill for a couple mins and have a smoke...I found that really hard...esp when I saw others going out..and I will confess, I have slipped up a few time...and whilst my exams were goin on, I had a few too...BUT! in my defence...I have only bought two packs and usually cant finish the smoke when I light it! Honest! LOL
The trick is to keep taking the pills (dosage goes up to 2mg for three mnonths then you gradually with help decrease til your off them) even though they may make you a lil sleepy or nautious...hardly anything though I highly recommend it!!
I would love to hear how y'all are getting on...I still struggle sometimes (like now coz im thinking about it) or if i see someone smoking in amovie or on tv..What are your ways of staying off the cigs? success and in progress stories please!
Cant wait to hear from you=)

I've always thought it was easier to just quit. You'll just end up getting hooked on another produc, and even though this is better for you than smoking, then it's not really good. Go cold turkey that the only way :)
