Do you think Penelope Cruz deserves the Academy Award for Best Suppoting Actress

A few hours ago, Penelope Cruz, the spanish actress, got the nomination (second in her career) to an Oscar Academy Award.
Vicky Cristina Barcelona, the film she got the nomination for, didn´t like me so much. It not seemed a Woody Allen´s movie. But, honestly, Penelope plays (in a brilliant way) the best character in the movie.
I am from Spain, just like her, and I would like to know if I have to put champagne in the fridge.
Do you think Penelope Cruz deserves the Oscar?
Who is her most serious rival?
Did you like the film she is nomimated for?
What do you think about Penelope´s career in Hollywood?

Keep in mind that Academy Awards don´t reward the entire career of actors, writers, directors and so on. In fact, a director´s job is getting the best of the actors and actresses he is guiding. And the awards Penelope have won last this year (including a Gotham Award and a third place in the National Society of Film Critics Awards) lead to think that she didn´t act so bad in Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

First of all, I didn't find "Vicky, Cristina Barcelona" movie so attractive as many people were ranked it. It was fine to watch it once and forget about it few minutes after watched.
Secondly, Penelope Cruz wasn't great in this movie, she was as usual, nothing catchy, nothing unique.
I don't think Penelope Cruz deserves "Oscar Academy Award". There are heaps of brilliant actors who have showed themselves last year.
