How does Reiki work?

My daughter is a Reike practitioner, and if how it works is taught, its only taught to those who learn from a master. The best way I can understand it is you become a channel for chi. From some of her experiences it transcends time. She was asked for a distance healing at one time and she wrestled with what to send the person for about two hours, not knowing exactly what the problem was. Finally she sent the healing energy and, in her mind, said take what you need and let the rest go. From the other end of the equation, the client seemed to receive the healing almost immediately after it was requested. It's a huge mystery to me how it works, but it does work and it's amazing!
