I installed the windows 7 beta OS in my mac as a virtual machine. I must say I am finally happy seeing a microsoft product. Though it has taken many cues from the mac OS X it looks far more superior to the crappy windows vista and underperforming xp. The OS is much faster, eye catching, sans nonsense software and most of all it is easy to use. It also did not seem to be using too much of the system resources as it was not eating too much of my laptop's RAM. I will try to post more as I start using it in the future more. I just hope it is backward compatible in the sense I can install all my windows xp software on windows 7!

I am also running the Beta version of Windows 7, but I feel that this is really a next generation of Vista. It seems to use as much system resources and the compatability issues with hardware still exist.
The most surprising thing to me is the slow rate at which updates are appearing, I would have expected a rapid turnover at this early stage.

I read somewhere online that this is basically the service pact 2 of vista and I think it is write. But though the OS is not perfect it is scores better than vista and that is what I think is the real improvement. I really hope when it comes out of the beta stage it rectifies all these issues. Let us wait and see of microsoft learns from its mistakes of the past!

I can see how much you're raving about Windows 7. Is it really that good?
Right now I am on Vista and I fear what might happen if I download Windows 7, so I'll wait for everyone's approval of said software before I have it installed in here. How IS the security? Vista comes with an Anti-Virus-esque software, so for the meantime I'm covered from all the bugs. How about Windows 7? And how about it's aesthetics?
So far I am seriously considering downgrading this to XP, since I have a lot of--okay, I admit--faux software I had my dad buy for me from the sidewalk vendor. [I don't have Php53700 to spend on Adobe PS CS4, so let me be.] And since Vista doesn't accept it, it's a bummer.
Tell us some more about your review. You might sway some users to use it. =)
Happy MyLotting!

I think you will find that Windows 7 is what vista should have been in the first place. The problem for microsoft is why would anyone want to upgrade to Windows 7, if XP does the job okay, which with SP2 and SP3 it seems to do.
As far as I know, Windows 7 is ready for launch now, but they are going to wait until Autumn 2009 for Launch ready for the Christmas market and all the hype that goes with it.
Remember also that the expiry date on the Beta release of Windows 7 runs out in August, and you will then either be forced to pay for the upgrade, or re-install XP or Vista or whatever operating system you had on before.

I should try windows 7 too.. Where do you get the beta version? Any feedback from using this beta version?
You highlight that the OS is faster and eye catching. But how about the security? Is it the factor being compromised in windows 7? or Is windows 7 in average requires high specs?
Have you tested windows vista and xp in your MAC as virtual machine as well?
