We're all different from each other. We all like different genres. Often, we find that one genre that we can get enough of, that simply makes us go crazy. So, my question is this: What is this genre for you? What genre makes you want more, makes you want to read more?

I love mysteries and infact that was the one starting with famous five and Nany Drew that hooked me on to reading. Butr these days with so much busy schedule I have switched to romantic and light novels. That do not require you to finish the book as you always know the ending. It has to do with having two kids. So these days jsut some light romantic stuff for me.

It is interesting you should bring this up because usually this type of question seems to pertain to one's favorite author... and I do not have a favorite author - only favorite genres. I would say I like autobiographies and memoirs. I have read Gilda Radner's, Alex Zanardi (a race car driver)'s, and am currently reading Ronald Reagan's. I like non-fiction and historical fiction so long as it is an accurate depiction and not a biased and/or misinformed account, and also any type of reference book on subjects that are of interest to me (I love researching my interests in great depth). I have not been a huge fan of fiction for years, which is odd because I'm usually attracted to the highly imaginative works in every other creative endeavor... I adore the poetry of Tennyson and Goethe though.

When it comes to reading I like mysteries and thrillers, but I actually like the ones that have some humor to them. Like the books that Janet Evanovich writes, but I can still get in to non humorous mysteries and thrillers. I also like a good charming funny chick lit romance book. When it comes to movies I am a sucker for romantic comedies.

My favorite genres are crime, murder mysteries and horror. I enjoy reading about crime investigation, police procedurals and forensics. As for horror, I prefer the psychological types, not vampires, ghosts or monsters.

Fantasy. I try to read as much as I could to know which is the best. I've had this thing for fantasy books since I was a kid but I've always seemed to have high standards. So far my favorite series is Harry Potter because of its wit. I've also recently finished the Twilight saga and I think that the first book and the leaked manuscript of 5th book are equal in crap-quality although Stephenie Meyer kind of improved from books 3 - 4 but still not enough to be in my top.
I've also read Eragon and am reading Eldest - I'll make it a point to finish the trilogy. And I'm planning to read Inkheart, Inkspell and Inkdeath - it's a children's book but it seems much more promising than Twilight. I tried reading Artemis Fowl but I think I got on with the wrong foot and will try starting at it again when I'm not preoccupied with another book :)
I've also read a lot more less popular books that I found on sale and I found on other people's book collections. Romance is second to my list and I had a phase when I devoured Jude Deveraux novels one after the other :)
Thanks of the response on my discussion!

It all depends on my mood of what I want to read at the time. If I am in the mood for paranormal romances, then that is what I read. If I am in the mood to read contemporary, series, etc, then that is what I read. I love Paranormal, Contemp, Medieval, Scottish, Irish, Science Fiction, and Fantasy...

I like many different genres. There are categories within genres and sub categories within them. It's practically endless. A book can be silly and funny or interesting and serious. It can be funny and romantic or sad and romantic...how does one choose when every book one picks up is soon a favourite?
I find that what pulls me into a book is the characters. Some characters are dull and flat and if in the correct scenario their personality can still be electrifying. Some characters are just interesting and likeable...even if they are the villain of the piece.
Just picking a genre is too hard for me....there are simply too many characteristics for me to choose from.
