What the end of the earth in 2012 means

The great Mayan Calendar, which predicts the end of the present cycle to occur precisely at midnight of Dec. 21, 2012, suggests not the end of the world, but merely the end of a 26,000-year earth cycle, divided into five sub-cycles of about 5,200 years.
On Dec. 21, 2012, several heavenly planets will be in complete alignment with the earth and solar system, an event which takes place only once in about 26,000 years. And such an alignment will exert a great magnetic pull that will affect all life on earth. Great changes will take place. There will be a breaking down of the old order of things to give way to the new.
The end of the present Earth cycle on Dec. 21, 2012 mentioned in the Mayan Calendar “does not mean the end of the world but the end of a cycle or an era. This means that a new kind of consciousness in the world will begin to take shape which will also affect the way of life on earth.”

from the user: i would be great if the earth would undergo changes especially in terms of consciousness... many people might also change their religious beliefs as well as their priorities in life....

my boy has been really into this stuff lately and beyond the mayan calander he says something in the catholic religion pionts to 2012 and also supposedly this huge planet bigger then jupiter will pass by earth in 2012 i know nothin about this stuff but he has been reading non stop on the internet about it. he is a mylotter so i hope he stops by to give his 2 cents i will reccomend him to this disscussion

The new consciousness means “a better understanding of the meaning of life. Cultures on earth will gradually change based on a new understanding of life. New philosophies will emerge, religious beliefs will gradually shift and scientific inventions will proliferate, but this time, it would not be geared towards destruction but to improve human life.”
I like what I read there. Sounds like the End time of the Bible. Where everything is at peace with one another. The tiger and the lamb thing.
But, I don't much like what was said here:
“Another far planet which has no name yet because it has not been detected yet by your scientists will have a great effect on your sun, and this will trigger tremendous sun flares that will affect not only the earth but also the other planets in your solar system. This will cause diseases and other global calamities.”
That is scary. Let's hope these diseases and other global calamities don't take control.Don't take place.
But, a new understanding of life would be nice.

i'm only looking forward in "new understanding of life" but not the disasters of course... i do not really feel scared at all, do not know why... maybe because i believe that most people here in our planet will survive despite of calamities that may occur...

do you think with that we will be greatly affected by the alignment of the planets and the beginning of a new cycle of earth.do you really think that it was just like that?i personally think that there will be a great things that will happen when planets align from one another abd since im not a scientist to explain this things i have the gut feeling that it will be something very interesting for all of us and perhaps the whole universe....lets just wait and see what will really traspire in that time...lets keep our fingers crossed that nothing bad will happen....

Do you think it's realy going to happen because if it is so i have to hurry now. Have you seen the movie Day after tomorrow. In that movie this topic is described very nisely. In my collage time i agve the seminar on Global Worming while studing that topic, we read various topics on this and now varions countries are making measures on this. If there is any other reason on end of WORLD god Knows.

just ask for guidance to survive and protection not only for 2012... sorry i'm not sure of your religion that is why cannot say whether you should ask for protection in Buddha, Allah, Jehovah or God...
