banner ads

how do i make a live banner add for my profile on this site or for a blog? I wanna get referrals by doing that but have no clue as to how to go about it..Does anyone have any tips or can they tell me how to do it and set it up? figure it will help the amount of money i can earn...can anyone tell me how much of a boost it gave their income and speed in getting to pay out amount?
