John Smith started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN) for 6am . while his coffeepot (MADE IN CHINA) Was perking, he shaved with his electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG). he put on a dress shirt (MADE IN SRI LANKA), designer jeans (MADE IN SINGAPORE) and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA) after cooking his breakfast in his new electric skillet (MADE IN INDIA) he sat down with his calculator (MADE IN MEXICO) To see how much he could spend today. after setting his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN) to the radio (MADE IN INDIA) he got in his car (MADE IN GERMANY) filled it with gas (FROM SAUDI ARABIA) and continued his search for a good paying job. at the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day checking his computer (MADE IN MALAYSIA), John decided to relax for a while. he put on his sandals (MADE IN BRAZIL) poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE) and turned on his TV (MADE IN INDONESIA), and then wondered why he can't find a good paying AMERICAN job. discuss if you wish.

lol i had a discssion that someone replied taht they loved china.. and i answered.. well i must love china too because all my stuff is from china!! its too true.. but its because the rich executive are rich because they cut corners and find the cheapest way to make their products and unfortunitly its to outsource to other countries where the people will work for much much much less. . and with no labour laws in some of those countries, they can hire children!! with such little fingers.. they sure can sew those little teensie stitches on the toys our own kids play with.. its sad. all around sad.

yeah, i have a vast collection of chinese goods in every room of my apartment, usually stuff that looks soooo nice in the catalogs, so you order it, get it home and realise china has NO QUALITY CONTROL!!! i have a set of frying pans that one of the handles broke screwing it on, a set of measuring cups that 2 out of 4 have broken handles from WASHING THEM!!! a wind chime that broke FROM THE WIND!!! and my new set of knives that are slowly having a blade separating from the handle issue. good thing The USA knows how to make duct tape and super glue! lol

If you really believe that outsourcing is hurting our economy, there is something you can do about it. Buy American! It was a slogan at one time. There is a site that lists products still made in the USA: http://www.stillmadeinusa.com/If we bought only American made products as much as possible, that would send a message. It might take a little time and trouble to find those products, but it's worth it.

Tell me more. My today's dilemma. Jeans I am wearing made in Taiwan, my sweater by Gap is made in China, my car was made in Germany, water I drink is from France, my home furniture are from Sweden....and on and on.... The other day when I called my cell phone provider, I spoke with someone from Pakistan....it was one way communication, because I didn't understand what she said... It is time to bring all jobs back to USA....

couldn't agree more pola, although i'm sure the car from Germany is pretty cool. but yeah, i'm sure we can make most of that stuff right here in the good ol' USA.

I wouldn't mind to have all made in USA. In the beginning we may have to pay more for some items, but in the end everyone wins... But, under one condition. We have to have quality control like they have in Germany. Regarding cars. To be honest, my latest American car was junk after 8 years, not mentioned a lot paid for repairs. My 13 years old German car looks like new and performs like new....

John Smith is a multicultural man indeed! Maybe he can go on good ol' American unemployment benefits! Hahahahaaa! Seriously though, things are much the same in Australia. Our best produce is sent overseas and we import cheap, second-rate fruit from other countries while our farmers are doing it very hard. Our supermarkets are full of foreign produce and our last Australian companies are being bought out by multinationals. It's alarming and sad. The mighty dollar seems to always win, and many of our lovely small towns are finding they can no longer tough it out. I read of one the other day where the bakery is closing, the school doesn't have enough children to sustain a teacher and they can't get a doctor. It's heartbreaking.

I wish more products were made in the USA. We are always told to buy American , but it is nearly impossible to find anything made here, and not in China, or somewhere else. Even the American flag is made in China!

Hey sconi! Very funny! They are making computers in Malaysia? And radios in India? Hmmm! Ok! So I got the point! lol So we are so busy outsourcing that we have no jobs for anyone here! NO KIDDING! Hope our new President can fix that problem real quick! It is really sad isn't it? We get everything from everywhere and make nothing here! How sad is that? It is no wonder that Americans have nothing to do!

There are not alot of things that are made in America. Therefore we have to buy things that are made from foreign countries. I do think this is rather funny if you were gaining towards humor.

You're right, i like your post. But i've a question: With his AMERICAN wage, could John Smith buy all these things but made in america?

there are so many sides that you could approach this argument with, but i must say, overall, my gut wants to agree with you. we do too much outsourcing in this country, and we don't even do it fairly. we need to start helping ourselves AND other countries by getting employment back on track! we can't have an unemployed population here and an underpaid population everywhere else! ay yai yai... makes my head spin...

sigh. looks like we need those entrepreneurs and thinkers more than ever in this country. I don't think this country will survive if we don't remake ourselves sooner than later, and that may be the only jobs we have for awhile.
