Does God Feel Our Pain?

There are times in our life that nothing seems to go right, and it may also seem that God is not listening. There are also times when the stress of this life may seem too much to bear, and we pray for some type of instruction and answer from god. Does God feel the pain our human heart and soul feel?

I believe that God gave us children so that we could better understand our relationship with Him. As a parent, I definitely feel the pain of my children and I want to do whatever I can to help them. When my first daughter was 2 or 3 years old, I would come home from work and she would screech at the top of her lungs, "Daddy's home! Daddy's home!" Run as fast as she could and wrap her arms around my legs because I was home. I believe that the feeling it gave me is the same feeling that God has when we realize that He is there and we call out to Him in prayer or song. And just like our children do not always obey us - and it hurts us when that happens - we do not always obey God. God loves us as we love our children. We want them to learn from their mistakes just as much as we want to instruct them and keep them from making mistakes. Similarly, God provided us with the 'rules' and a teacher. He also provided us with free will to make the choice of how we should live. In my own life, I have physical pain. I can sit here and wonder, "Why? Why am I being put through this pain and illness?" Or, I can pick myself up (figuratively) and realize that there is more to life and that I was letting a lot of that slip by unnoticed when I wasn't disabled. I am grateful for the experience that I would never have gotten otherwise. Sure, there is pain, but prayer and faith have brought me to where I can deal with the pain and perhaps help others to realize that God does listen and answer prayer, just not always in the manner that we envision.

This is one of the reason why I posted this discussion forum, indeed, God does exist in every part of us and each and every thing under the sun and the vast universe. Sometimes the way our life goes may not be what we think it should be, then again these are the challenges we face in this lifetime.

Thank you for posting this wonderful response.......it is beautiful in it's simplicity and yet deep in it's meaning. So easy for anyone to understand how God relates to us and feels about us, especially if they do have children of their own. However what the world does not understand is that we are ALL God's CREATION, but we are not ALL His children till we come to believe in Him and accept His Son as Saviour and Lord of our life. Yes, we must keep on believing and trusting through good times and bad. He is still in charge, and He feels our pain.

Max Lucado in his book, "A Gentle Thunder: Hearing God Through The Storms" told a story about a hummingbird that got trapped in his home. It kept banging it's little head against a closed window, desperate to get out. Max tried to guide it to the open window with two box lids that were handy. The hummingbird then somehow moved upward between the window and the screen. Max realized that the only way to free the little guy was to reach up into the gap as gently as he could and let him go free outside. Max thought afterward how interesting the story that hummingbird's story to his family must have been when he got home that night. It might have gone something like, "This evil giant was trying to catch me to eat me. First he came at me with huge clubs to try and crush me. I tried to hide but then he grabbed me with his big hands to crush me and eat me, but I managed to get away". We're like that hummingbird. We bang our head against walls day in and day out. God sees all and knows all and understands our dilemma better than we do. He does what He needs to get us where we need to be. We don't always understand our pain but need to trust that He does. We also need to remember how unfair it is to blame Him. If I slap you in the face, would you turn around and blame my husband? No. You'd, rightfully, blame me. May of our difficulties are caused by other people or by our own rebellion.

Thanks for leaving this poignant comment, indeed, we are like children and that beautiful hummingbird that was trapped - but was freed by the gentle hands of a human being knowing that God the creator of all things lives in each living thing.

I think that God does feel our pain. I think He feels our happinesses, joys, heartaches and everything else we created because we were created in His image and He is a part of us. Everything that affects how we feel affects how he feels. I mean I honestly believe that when we cry He cries with us.

i am absolutely sure that he does. well, if not, He don't deserve to be called God, right? God is very compassionate. we just have to trust his love for us and his timing. sometimes, God intends to be silent so we would grow. if God would answer from the very moment you asked him, trusting Him and having faith in him won't really matter. we will abuse it. just continue trusting. his love never fails.

Nope. Over the past few years i have lost ALL faith in god. There are too many sick murders and abusers of children. Innocent people hurt during wars. I know that we are all supposed to learn from pain and sufering that we see to make us better people. But surely there must be a better way than to have 4 year old kids raped? So my theory is that there is no god so therefore no-one to feel pain. We are here alone.

I am very sorry that you have lost faith in God and Jesus, I think you may have got my title confused. It was not about a persons belief in God, it was more about does the creator of all things pertinent feel the pain of our human existence. If you take pause and look around you - God is a part of everything that lives and breaths throughout our vast universe.

If some greater being does exist he/she cant feel our pain or he/she would do something about it.

You may have your reason why you no longer believe in God...and yes there are lots of things we do not really understand. It is because we are not God. God's thoughts are not our thoughts, neither His ways our ways. All i can say is that He understands and feels our pains. it is not in His thought to see His children suffer. But because of our sins, that makes us suffer. If all creations can only come to Him, humble down before Him, and seek His face, He will heal our land...
