Reopenning of Nuclear Power Plant near Mt. Pinatubo

It's early in the year and we're already hearing stupid news. Why in the world would anyone even put up a Nuclear Power Plan near a live volcano? Just because there's already a partial structure for it, it doesn't mean that they should "make the most out of it". There's not even a feasibility study presented for its benefits risks. Clearly this is just another of those projects that wouldn't push through and its allocated budget vanishing in the winds.

wow, that is far too risky.. but i think it is just the nature of south east asia that have so many volcanos right? like in indonesia, from eastmost to the west most.. there's so many volcanos.. maybe your goverment thinks that there's no other choice for the place?

You know what, I just thought about that today when I discussed the issue with my father. He said that we're in the Circle of Fire and everywhere is "near a volcano" but I don't think that's really the case. The Nuclear Power Plant is only a couple of hours drive from Mt Pinatubo and knowing that volcano's destructive history, then it's really a big risk unless they've already come up with some technology that would make it as safe as building it farther from a live volcano - Frankly, there ARE places that don't have any experience of being affected by volcanic eruptions and sadly, Bataan isn't one of them.

wow, if that's the case, i think your government have another consideration, what i mean is politically or have some kind of pressure from more powerful entity.. don't know either since i'm never been to philipines.. anyway, thanks for the best response !

I think when the built the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant... nobody knew that Mt. Pinatubo would ever erupt... it was pratically and unknown dormant volcano during that time... a lot of people... especially those who will make lots of money out of the opening of this power plant are clamouring and really lobbying for it... but i think more people are against it... and even i will surely join protests if the government ever decides to make this operational...

I have been reading this post in here and I too am concerned about what that powerpland can do if in case it continues to be built. I just hope the government would just think it through and not think of how much they can earn from it.
