Dwight Howard got over 3 million to be the starting center for the East All-Stars. It makes me wonder why Shaq didn't get those amount of votes when he played for the Magic as I think he definitly was better than Howard. Maybe the Slam Dunk Contest is what got him all the attention. I didn't think Howards dunk was good at last years Dunk Contest with his cape on and thought it was unprofessional. I can't believe he got a 10. I would have gave him a 1. Hes still a really good player though but hes no Shaq that played for the Magic.

That is because internet is everywhere, during the time Shaq was at the magic, I dont know if electronic votings are being practiced, if yes, well only on selected countries. Expect the record of Dwight Howard to be broken in the near future. It wont be permanent as the internet was growing through the years. But anyway, Howard dominates the poll coz he's almost the unanimous choice. There are no other competitive center in the East aside from him.

Main reason why Dwight Howard got so many votes is because he doesn't have any competition on the center spot for the east. Think about it after him who's the most popular center out there in the east? Perkins? Bogut? Okafor? Dalembert? please.... he got so many votes not only because he is the most dominant center in the game right now but also because there is nobody close to his popularity at the center spot in the east.

That is wonderful to hear. thanks for sharing this with all of us. I'm not sure if I have ever heard of them before. I think Shaq and Michael Jordan were the best.

shaq would have been better than jordan if he could shoot at least 80% from the free throw line.

I agree with you that Howard is overhyped even though he is undoubtedly a great big man. To be honest, I think the Magic are overhyped as a team...was it Doc Rivers who said they're the best team in the NBA right now? I don't think they're on the same level as Boston, the Lakers, or Cleveland. I have to admit I did like Howard's dunk last year, though. It was creative, looked awesome, and gave him a chance to have some fun with his Superman nickname.

It`s a Slam Dunk Contest. It is for entertainment purposes only. So how is a cape unprofessional ? Anyway, Shaq had other great centers he was playing against when he first started Zo,Ewing, to name a few were still in the East at the time. There are no centers in the East now so he dosen`t have anyone to compete with.

its not just about the cape but i also didn't think the dunk was that good either as his hands didn't grab the rim so it was not really a dunk. it still managed to go into the basket but if you look at the dunk while he was doing it than it clearly was not a dunk. why does somebody need a cape to show their outstanding dunk abilities? vince carter or michael jordan nor anybody didn't need a cape. the cape didn't make it any better.
