I take a fair amount of dietary supplements. The reason is that I have been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. There are some vitamins and supplements that are recommended in therapeutic dosages to combat the damage done to the body by MS. In order to get the right dosage of these vitamins, I would have to consume WAY too much food.'
To prevent vitamin deficiencies, I take a good mutli-vitamin supplement. Additionally, I use a Co-enzyme Q10 supplement and a B-complex supplement (mostly for the benefits it gives to circulation).
The most beneficial supplement I take is VidaCell. This is a functional food product, not truly a 'supplement.' There is a lot of research to back it up, but the fact remains that it works for me. Can I prove it? Well, not in this forum. However, I have experienced quite a bit of improvement in my symptoms since taking VidaCell. As it is the only change that I made to my daily routine, I know that my improvements are a result of VidaCell. Since taking it, I have had increased energy (less fatigue) and improved muscle tone. I have been able to start exercising again - limited, but more than I had been capable of prior to taking VidaCell. The exercise is also helping me to improve, sure, but I was not able to do any exercise at all until recently. VidaCell helped me get to the point where I could start again.
If you want more information, you can visit my profile. There is a banner on the top of the page that will take you to the VidaCell website. There are several video and audio presentation there along with the text that will provide both the history and the science behind the product.

No we do not use anything at all like that. Even if we feel the onset of a cold we will increase our consumption of citrus fruit and other foods that contain large amounts of Vitamin C. Generally we rely on our diet to get all the vitamins, minerals etc that our body needs. We are lucky as we have a wide range of foods available here in Australia and that does help considerably as not only can we have a varied diet, but we do not need to take supplements if we take care what we eat. Also my partner and I have the added advantage of growing organically most of the fruit and vegetables that we eat. Sure we have to buy some times but not as much as most people plus we know that what we grow ourselves are chemical and pesticide free.
I know that it is not the way in many other countries where food might be scarce or even there is not a great variety available. So some people would be in need of some sort of dietary supplement if they are to get the recommended doses of vitamin and minerals for a healthy body and mind.
The other factor to be taken into consideration is the cost of these dietary supplements because they are not cheap. Depending on the cost of fruit and vegetables where you live, I really do believe that we should try and eat so that we get the necessary nutrients for a healthy life.
Good luck to you. I am not sure that anyone can really prove that these dietary supplements are doing them good because in normal circumstances would only form part of the daily intake. I shall be interested in reading the responses though to see what people have to say.

I have taken vitamins and suppliments since I was a teenager. Vitamin B is great for stress, I can actually tell when I've forgotten to take it for a few days or take an inferior brand. The suppliments my husband takes has enabled him to stop taking his prescription blood pressure medication as well as his cholesterol medications. What we're taking now is made without some of the dangerous compounds found in prescription medications - we have no side effects, just healthier bodies :)
I beleive we need supliments to our daily diet - even if we eat healthy. We have drained our soils of many of the minerals and nutrients that we need. This is the only ohter way to get them. Oh, well we could eat 20 pounds of broccoli a day...

I only take natural dietary supplement. I don't go for synthetic because I want to protect my kidney and my liver from getting all the bad effects. I am regularly taking malunggay capsule and virgin coconut oil and they have been very useful in keeping me energetic and healthy.

I have read all the responses to this querry & would like to address the confusion.
There are 2 types of dietary suppliments available in the market : synthetic & Natural.
Natural means that this suppliment is made 100% from natural extracts only. these are xpensive but effective. there should should not be any negativity about these products & i believe that even many doctors are not aware of that. whenver they subscribe vitamin tablets it is always the synthetic one.
Nutralite is one company that makes the best suppliments in the world.I have also been to their farm & their factory & can vouch for authencity of their products.
There was one response about absorption. These natural suppliments are easily absorbed by the body. There has been sufficient manhours of research gone into it to make sure that they have the right combination for this.
Suppliments are not a substitute for a balanced diet neither is it a medicine. All it does is to strengthen the natural immunity of the body.
Whenever i have to torture my body ( stay late to study/work for a long period, hectic travel schedule) i have resorted to suppliments & it has benefitted me immensly.
Eg: i used to get mouth ulcers whenever i worked late into nights. this problem was solved by taking B complex as a precautionary measure.
: Natural Iron & folic tablets helps my wife stay active during those three nasty days.
I have been taking regular suppliments( natural) just to keep me away from doctors.
& have had absolutely no negative effects from that except for a lighter purse.

no i donot think so all these work on your body.i feel its just a way of earning by telling all good things about it and once you buy it you get to know how difficult it gets to use them at times and it gets complicated too.i would rather suggest not to go for any such products any harm the body by using these products.we shuold love ourselves the way we are.

unless there are bonafide researchers here nobody can prove it.
the bona fide researchers can't even prove it.
sounding like a commercial, that depends on what you think a commercial sounds like, personally, I know from research that vitamins pills are not the best way to go, eating healthy is what has been proven to be good for your body. Vitamins do help sometimes, especially for people who do not eat properly and are lacking the vitamins and minerals their body needs because of it, but vitamins still are not as effective as proper eating. This is straight from research.

Yes, I do take dietary supplements AS NEEDED. When I start to show symptoms of a cold/virus, I immediately start taking vitamin E & A for a couple of days. The symptoms either go away or whatever the problem is, it is very mild and doesn't last long. But, I don't take these vitamins every day - only as needed.
I also take melatonin if I am stressed out and having problems getting to sleep; but, only if I am having a problem sleeping, not every day. Sometimes a couple of good nights sleep is all I need to get back on track.
Supplements do work IF you take the ones that you actually need in the proper amounts. Do some research and find out what supplements are good for your health problem and then take them appropriately.
Also, be sure you get quality supplements; many are not regulated or standardized - so strength and purity may vary. Some products that say they contain a supplement, may not contain ANY at all - so of course they would seem to be useless.

I think vitamins and supplements are good for people and they are recommeded by doctors. We need many vitamins that are in daily vitamins and it is almost impossible to get all the nutrients we need just from food. We especially need vitamin D and you cant really get enough of that from milk.

I believe we should try to get all the nutrients we need from food, but if those who don't eat correctly may need to take supplements to make up for the vitamins and minerals they are missing, I believe our bodies do need all of the essential vitamins and minerals and if we can't or won't get them with food we should take a multivitamin to make sure that we are getting it all It is when people start taking all kinds of seperate and individual supplements that I get worried, as they may be taking in to much of that particular vitamin or mineral. I think that everyone needs to have a full body physical that analyzes what their body is in need of before supplementing anything.

dietary supplements are not just some magic pills in a bottle. Each supplement address a specific concern and should be thoroughly looked at before taking it. You have to be careful not to overdose on viamins and minerals, also. Sometimes I will feel that supplements give me more energy. I have high blood pressure and my medication specifically says to eat a banana everyday (because it can interfere with levels of potassium). I don't like to eat a banana a day because of what it does to my sugar (trying to avoid diabetes). So, I do take a potassium supplement. It's a very low percentage of the rda ... single digit. So, I don't worry about if I'm getting too much potassium. And, I do feel like my skin is looking better ... lack of potassium messes with your skin.

The best source of nutrients should be natural food. Dietary supplements may not be "absorbed" by the body to the extent the same is taken from foods in those natural doses. I will give an example. I was once prescribed Vitamin B Complex. Each time I took the syrup, I could see it passed off in stools. That means body rejected them. I used to appreciate Nature's design of rejecting whatever was not coming to it like it should.

I dont take dietary supplements. I am afraid some of the capsules wont be that good to my body. And before i take medicines, i always like to consult my doctor. Its best if you concentrate on fruits and vegetables because you will get essential vitamins and minerals than supplements. Consult your physician first before trying it.
