ok i hav a akc reistered male yellow lab, jake. about 8months ag i saved a 6 mo old full blooded female yellow lab, whom we named dasiy. she doesnt have papers, but the bet confermed that she is full blooded. she went into heat and i had to put some pull ups on her for a while when she was inside. (i keep my dogs inside and they go out to pee)
jake locked on daisy about 6 times in a week, so i am pretty sure that we are going to have puppys. whoo hooo
my question is, we bought a large crate for her to have her puppys in so that jake and my daughters dog( a male mini dobermen pincher) will leave them a lone. how do i get her to go in there and feel comfortable? we have started puting her in there when we leave so that she can get used to it and stop tearing up the house.(whichshe just stared doing about 2 wks before she went into heat) what are the signs to watch out for when she is starting to go into labor?
this is going tobe her first litter, maybe even her last, so i want to make it go as easy for her as possible. when the pups are born what can i do to help dasiy to take care of them? we are planning on getting the pups first shots and stuff so that we can better sell or give away the pups.
any ideas would be greatfull.

She is to young to be be pregnant. It will be very bad for her health. lease considerer spaying her and aborting the litter.

REALY? according to my vet, because this wa in fact her second heat that it was alright to breed her. when we got her she was in her first heat and the vet said to keep my male away from her, because she was too young then. she said f the bigger dogs that you have to wait at least the second heat before breeding her. i know that i heard once on a dog program that smaller dogs are ready to breed at 6 mos.
as of right now the vet says that everything is ok, and that we should be able to have some healthy puppys.

Generally the first heat is between 6 months and 1 year.
6 months is always to young for a lab to be bred. They don't check hips for displacia until 9 months. Get her spayed it will be best for her health. Spaying will lower her chance of mammary cancer.
I suggest you find a new vet. Any vet who says it's ok to bred at 6 months needs to go back to veterinary college.

i think that you may have misunderstood me in my first posting... or maybe it was just that i statted it wrong. my female, dasiy is actually about a yr and half old. according to the vets that i have contacted, she is safe to breed, since she is in fact over the yr old mark.
