Every day there are moments of joy!

I've had a mediocre day. I've had some downright ROTTEN days! But there are moments of joy in every day if you take the time to see them. Let me explain.. I'm alone after 19 years of marriage that I thought would last forever. I'm unemployed and money is tight despite having an income that pays the bills. I have very little retirement funds, I'm 54 and am oftentimes worried how I'll live in my old age. But life is still good. I have my independence. I have my two children, even though they live nearly 2,000 away. But there's always someone worse off than me and I have a warm house to live in and food to eat. I take comfort from these everyday joys. A couple of Robins have decided to stay this winter, much to my delight. The moonlight on the snow and ice are indescribably beautiful, and I have eyes to see it. The wind blowing through the tree is frigid, yet the movement of the trees is so beautiful! My house is chilly because I'm trying to save money, yet it's so comforting to have a bowl of chili--the warmth of the food and is wonderful even if my fingers are cold. Look around you, study the trees and the ground and the birds flying. Feel the warmth of the winter sun, study the brilliance as it illuminates the snow. Look at the stars shining. Think of all the people who love you! Life is good, because of all those things we cannot buy but are given to us freely if we will only see them and let them warm our heart. Just wanted to share. I'm so blessed, and would be so even if I were living in a cardboard box on the street--which I've done. Count your blessings, and enjoy life!

What a wonderful outlook on life! I'm glad that you posted it here because it might just help someone else see that there are things worth living for, even in desperate times. All anyone has to do is open their eyes and look around! I share your philosophy. On days when I hurt so badly I can barely move or even pick up a bowl of chili because it just hurts too much, I think about the fact that I DO have arms that work, even if they don't work too well. When my legs and back are killing me, I think of all the people I've known who spent years or even their entire lives in a wheelchair! I think of people like Christopher Reeve (a.k.a. Superman) who, after his severely crippling accident which left him unable to even breathe in his own, still kept going! Then, there is Stephen Hawkings, the greatest astronomical physicists of all time who could not move at all! Yes, there really IS so much to be thankful for, even when life seems overwhelming. Just sitting back and feeling sorry for ourselves is the worst thing we can do. Sometimes, life knocks us down. The trick is to get right back up and continue on. We'll get nowhere if we just sit there and cry but there's a very good chance that something good will come our way if we keep trudging onward with our eyes open to all the good things around us. You're living proof of that! You lived in a cardboard box yet now, here you are, communicating with us on your computer from your home. It may not be the very best you could hope for, but it's far from a cardboard box! You go, girl! So much can come from so little, if we just open up our eyes and our minds! There is beauty all around us, part of us. Again, thank you for posting this great discussion!

I'm so glad you get it! I was afraid I wasn't making myself clear so it was a long ramble. We have a choice to cry or laugh and choosing laughter is always better.

Oh, we all need to be reminded sometimes! I'll have a pity party every so often, it's good for the soul occasionally, but then I realize how blessed I am. Life is a wonderful adventure if we accept it as that, and adventure doesn't mean constant good times. If not for the darkness of the night, how could we appreciate the sun?

You are SOOO right! Been there with the hard times myself. I've eaten enough 20 cent boxes of mac n cheese to take me from here to the moon! But now I have a wonderful hubby a beautiful daughter and now a 6 week old son. They are where I find my greatest moments of happiness. Here is wishing you more moments of joy!

Wow, you are truly wealthy! I remember when my sons were as young as your baby and how wondrous it was just to look at their dear little faces. I wish you good health and an abundance of love!
