If you and 9 friends go to a restaurant together. Suppose that there are 3 pieces of bread in one plate, 4 apples in one basket and 5 meatballs in one bowl. How many plates, baskets and bowls you order so that each person will have at least one piece of bread, an apple and a meatball? Please note that this is only a math question from grade 1 pupil

Hi youless! This one is easy! I have nine friends who will go to the restaurant with me, so that is a total of ten people. I will order: 4 plates of bread (4plates x 3 breads = 12, which will give me an excess of 2 breads) 3 baskets of apples (3 x 4 = 12, giving me an excess of 2 apples) and 2 bowls of meatballs (2 x 5 = 10), which is just right for the ten of us. And all the excess, i am going to take home if my friends wouldn't want to eat the excess..don't like to waste it! lol.. Take care and have a great day! lovelots..faith

3 plates, 3 baskets and 2 bowls, right? Or is it supposed to be 8 total? I would give that to my first grader. It requires you to think about different things at once, but the "at least" makes it simpler.

There will be food left over, of course. me + 9 = 10 3 = bread 4 = apples 5 = meatballs 3, 6, 9, 12 = 4 plates of bread with 2 pieces remaining. 4, 8, 12 = 3 plates of applies with 2 apples remaining 5, 10 = 10 meatballs with a remainder of 0. i've always been lousy at using the methods that the teachers want me to use to solve word problems, but I can usually get them correct by using my own logic, as I've done in this case.

very good Danish! I wonder how many first graders would remember themselves in the problem. I think I only did because of the old riddle about meeting a man on the way to St Ives... that had seven wives etc.

Correct. You are very careful. In fact this question is not so difficult. But many people just remember 9 people rather than 10 ones

Almost correct, but I think you are a little bit careless. As the total people shall be 10. I made the same mistake, too

This is a funny logic question, but let's break it down: 9 Friends, each one has to have bread, apples, and meatballs. Ordering 3 plates of bread gives you: 9 pieces of bread, 12 apples, and 15 meatballs.

well...it sounds simple enough so I will answer 3 plates of bread, 3 baskets of apples and 2 bowls of meatballs. Now, what is the correct answer? Marsha

Yeah, this question seems easy but if you are not careful, it is easy to make a wrong answer
