So my local grocery store has 5 pound bags of rice for buy one get one free and with financial times being what they are, of course I bought 2 bags. But then i realized i really don't know that many recipes that require rice and that my whole family will eat (2 adults and 4 children). Have any ideas on kids friendly rice recipes that are budget friendly, too?

I always put rice into my chili, soup and even mexican foods as a filler to help with the meat! I love mixing rice with diced tomatoes and a few jalapenos. I can make a filling meal out of rice topped with succotash (corn, okra and tomatoes mixed together). Try looking up mexican dishes online! They use quite a bit of rice! Enjoy!

They also use a lot of beans, that's what I like with my foods. Hmmm, speaking of which..............

Make some rice and if you have leftovers like chicken for instance chop up the chicken and add vegetable(s) , I use green peas, mix together and add seasonings like salt and pepper or whatever you desire and there you go. I am sure you could add any meat like pork or beef also. Another is cook up some sausage(Jimmy Dean Hot is what I use), I crumble and cook in pan along with celery, onion and seasonings. After sausage and veggies are cooked, I add to the cooked rice, mix and there is a meal. You could add rice to your soup and stuffed Bell Peppers are another good recipe. Adding rice to your stuffing mix is real good too.

Here in the philippines, rice is always on every meal. We eat it together with our viand but we sometimes cook it in some ways. I suggest you a good input recipe. 1) Cook rice. 2) Cook some scrambled eggs probably 3 eggs for 5 cups of rice. Put some garlic and onions and a pinch of salt into the egg then cook it. Set this aside. 3) Cook some shrimp.. this is so simple. You can steam the shrimps or you can cook it with water and some onions and garlic and 2 - 3 tbsp of soy sauce. Take it out whe the shrimp is cooked. 4) Saute garlic and onion in a pan with some oil. Put the cooked rice on the pan when the garlic and onions are brown already (lightbrown). Put some soy sauce and some salt. You can add any spices you like. Mix them well, gently though. Cook it for 5 -7 minutes. Before you add the scrambled egg, slice them first in strips. Add them after 5-7 minutes of cooking then add the shrimps too. Mix them well, wait for 10 -15 minutes, constantly but gently mixing them. You're done. You can also add some cooked hotdogs, just slice them or some prok or chicken leftovers. Honestly, you can put almost anything into this.

It's definitely worth trying! I mean scrambled eggs. You can scramble the eggs then put a pinch of salt then keep whisking it then add onions and garlic to it.. then cook it! :)

I fix stir fry a lot. I use beef tips or chicken cut into strips. Cook your meat until it's done, add frozen veggies and steam until tender. Serve over rice.

I use teriyaki (where is the spell check when you need it! LOL) sauce and/or soy sauce. Also worcestershire sauce is very good.

There are lots of good suggestions here, I would add that you can add rice to soup to stretch it as well, vegetable soup, tomato soup, chicken soup etc.
