as far as i know, the two instruments are different. the bass has 4 strings, and a guitar has 6 strings. you don't need to learn how to play the guitar to learn how to play the bass. as far as which to purchase first, i'm unsure about that. good luck learning!

I am on my way to learn acoustic guitar but I have a friend who started learning with bass guitar. I have heard that bass guitar is easier to learn, I don't have a point for that, that's what I have heard.
For me, I prefer acoustic guitar better because it sounds better for me. I take lesson at home but plan to find a teacher who could show me basic tips to ease my home lessons which I am doing by myself.
I use a book for beginners and much useful information on the net.

Hi there, yes it is easy to learn bass guitars. But bass guitars are for tempo purposes while acoustic are for the rhythm so that is why I think it sounded better. Good luck! Try this cool site -http://www.e-chords.com. They have video tutorials, chords for diff type of instruments and also chord simplifier for beginners :)

No, it certainly isn't necessary to learn acoustic or electric guitar before learning bass guitar. The right hand technique is rather different anyway.
Once you have learned bass guitar you will find it a lot easier to learn guitar because the bass guitar's four strings are just like the four bass strings of the guitar only an octave lower.
You will find that, with the bass guitar, you tend to learn scales and scale patterns, rather than chords. You should, however, know what notes belong to the chords because putting a good bass line over a chord sequence involves knowing the scales that belong to each chord.
It isn't essential to learn conventional music notation but, if you do, you would find more work as a session or band musician. If you plan to play with a jazz or rock (used in the broadest sense) group, you will need to be able to read chord symbols (e.g. C, G7, Am7, Eb dim &c). A bassist will know the notes involved in each chord (as if it were an arpeggio) and how to construct a good bass line using the notes of the scales that belong to each chord.

I woulndt think that you would need to that however, I dont really know. I think you shoud ask the muscians that are on my lot. I used to play the acoustic guitar but I dont like to play it any longer.

want to become a bass god, its simple buy yourself a fender bass, i recommend the 6 string ones, remember that as a bass player everyone in a band have to follow your tempo and trust me bass players are rare on the market, i would recommend you to go for it but remember that you wont be able to play just any songs on it!

It isnt a must, but it would help if you know at least the basics in playing the acoustic guitar. It will help you when you started to study playing bass. I am not really good in playing the bass but because I know how to play the acoustic guitar, I can also play basic bass beats :) Good luck!
