Scarification is when you draw out a picture on your self and get the skin cut off to create a scar in that pattern. It is practiced by some tribes and some people get it done nowadays. I have a friend who recently had this done. So I was wondering what you think about it? Have you or would you ever get it done? Is this a too extreme form of body modification?
Here is a video of a friend getting his done.

I have to warn you it is very graphic and not for the squeamish. If you want to watch though, enjoy.

i dont think so it sounds to painful. i would rather stick with getting a tattoo with ink insted of having skin cut off or burned. its sounds very cool in all, but thats one of those things that you have to really live with for the rest of your life. with ink at least i can get it covered up or removed. i've seen things like that on a tv show call taboo and they were talking about that and how there are tribes that do it for other reason then most people would get it done for. its not something that i would ever consider doing not even if some one was going to pay me to do it.

I also think its cool, but also would never consider getting that done to myself either. It also is very permenant except with some serious plastic surgery. So it has to be a very thought out idea, before you do something like that. Thanks for the response.

I have three tattoos at the moment and I would like to get some more in the future. I am letting my boyfriend design one that I am going to get and he gets to decide where it goes. I like my tattoos and they all have meaning to them. I don't think it is too extreme. Some like it while others don't.

Yes, you may be right. I have not seen the scar after the initial cutting so do not even know if it turned out right. As my friend is not broadcasting it around I imagine maybe he was not happy with the result. Thank you for the response, I think I will keep to my tats as well.

I definitly think it is more extreme when compared to tattoos. I remember when I was in like 5th grade this boy in my class like this girl named Stephanie. He sat home & carved her name into his arm and then cut the skin off. He showed us and someone reported it and he was taken out of school and to the hospital. I'm not sure what they did to his skin or what could be done. It wasent bleeding when I saw it but it was gross. I was horrified that he would do something like that. I couldnt imagine doing something like that to myself especially at that age.

I watched and I think it is gross! It is a Cutter's dream Job! Ha Ha I think you should not destroy your body and cutting it up is not a good way of taking care of yourself. And, I know some ppl who get tattoo's and want to get rid of them so how would you get rid of this? You are scarred for life! I think some ppl are not thinking that the money they spend on destroying their bodies that they could use to put towards helping someone save their body like cure's for diseases. Now, off my soapbox! I think if you want to express yourself that way you can; just wait until you are really sure. Like get a fake tattoo then wear that awhile, then a real tattoo, then the scar thing to make sure you still like it and it does not make you uncomfortable around others. Well, that is what I think; but I hope I have not made anyone upset with me it is just what I think!

I have already gotten a real tattoo and am very comfortable with it. For the cutting part, not so sure I would want to do that to myself. You are right, I am still pretty young and something like that should be something you do when you get older and get tired of the tattoos, and something you think about for a very long time beforehand. Thank you for your response.
