"True friends are like diamonds, precious and rare. False friends are like leaves, found everywhere". I do agree by this statement true friends are those who stand by you during your difficult times & not abandon you, providing emotional support & console.False friends are mainly "hi-bye friends", just stick to you during your happy & glory days, leave when you are in need.

I never heard that rhyme but I agree with it one hundred person, just because you know someone it doesn't make them your friend.

Hi akangirl, If you find a true friend you will know it. I have only a few that I call a true friend. 2 of which I have had for about 20 years. When things are bad I dont tell anyone about it. But some how they have found out and called me to help in anyway that they could. I have done the same when I found out about them going through a bad time. They did not go and tell people about their proublems But I found out anyway. Funny isnt it
Yes true friends are hard to come by.

akangirl,
Interesting and captivating statements however, do you ever ponder how to be a friend in the first place?
As the saying goes: "Friendship is when people know all about you but like you anyway. " I think relationships are karmic in nature, you reap what you sow. It is your consequence for what you have done. I wonder how far you will agree with this, for kindness begets kindness in the first place. So, I suppose before you really apply that statement, it would only be fitting to ask yourself if you had been that diamond amongst your friends, the shoulder to lean on when they needed it and providing that unwavering support when it was time. Do you qualify? In this world that is so imperfect I just cannot assure you that I have done a very good job so far but I am just glad that I have a handful of friends around. I won't really be able to tell if I am that diamond of theirs but even a zircon crystal should be comforting enough. For I cannot tell if our friendships had already stood the true test of fire yet. Can you? What do you think?
IMHO, we should all first drop our judgmental attitude ourselves and treat everyone fair and alike. Simple to quote here but try doing it and you will see tantamount obstacles coming your way. I think I have an interesting statement to conclude my post here: "Friends will bail you out of jail, but a True Friend will go to jail with you and be found sitting by you saying, " that was awesome !""
Spare a thought about it and have a nice day.

I have never found a true friend. People change and friends who you thought were true turn out to be different when situations change. I don't trust friends at all. Cheers!!
