This is one of those discussions that can go on and on. Each of us can imagine and speculate, but how can we really know. We can assume that we are living our reason for being by virtue of the fact that we live each day. We can assume that we are in control of what we do and that God has given us free choice. But who can explain why one person chooses path A and another person chooses path B. What makes path A look more attractive to you? If you say your environment, then you have just removed your free choice because you introduced an element of influence.
In the case of Captain Sully and the miracle on the Hudson, was he put on this earth to save those 155 people from disaster. Is that what he spent his entire life training for? Is his mission accomplished or does he have more to do?
In the case of the little girl, Caley Anthony, where here mother is accused of killing her, what was her reason for being? What did she do to fulfill her purpose at such a young age?
You can get a headache pondering this subject. It is very interesting to think about, but I don't think mankind has the answer. Lots of ministers will try to make you think they know the answer to this. Only God knows, and He isn't sharing the information.
The one thing that seems to be true...no man is an island. We need each other. I don't know why we are here in the first place, but for sure, I believe we are here to help each other along the way. Our very survival depends on it.

if we know then it is no longer that exciting. thats the reason why spend most of our young years at school studting. to determine how we will go or be when the future comes. it adds morethrills when you meet cool people along the way. they can be friends, not so god friends, best friends or the special part is if you meet the person that you would like to share a good future with. life is fun and short so live it right.

Yes we are put here for a reason. We are given openings to take that will move us or hold us back. Our purpose in life is given to us and it is the journey that allows for the destinantion of our lives to take place.
