I feel that a child should read mabye 15-30 minutes a day...more if they're enjoying what they're reading. I've always enjoyed reading books and/or magazines. Reading is so beneficial for a person, child or adult. You can learn so much when you're reading.

As a parent I agree that I would like to have my children read that much at least when they get old enough. My kids like to look at books now, but will not really let me read to them. I truly want to, but see no reason when they are doing nothing but running around and not listening at all. Both of my toddlers have attention span problems and I do not know how to get them to let me read to them. I have always loved to read and was told that I taught myself to do so at three. I spent endless hours reading as a child and teen and still read every chance I get.

I suppose there are always books on tape. It's just a matter of finding what you're looking for. There aren't always a variety of children books on tape.
This way the children can be "read" to, and you don't necssarily have to be there doing the reading.

I would like to instill a love of reading into my kids too. I think that my youngest will like to once she gets better at it. She has struggled for a long time but I think she is finally starting to come around and learning to read fairly well. I think that reading 30 minutes a day if very beneficial to all those who will do it.

My daughter is kinda like that too. She likes me to read to her. Also, she likes to "read" the book herself. Sometimes we're leave the light on when she's in bed, so she can "read" for a little while before she goes to sleep.

Reading a gift which not only induces knowldeg but also provide the base for the child to shape their career and life. Reading is a must do to enhance the vocabulary and to increase the know how on a particular subject. In today's competetive arena reading should be made a part of curriculum in the education system.

hello crsunrise
i have to agree with you about children as well as adults reading. and if the child is interested in whatever that they are reading about it is possible that they might read longer than thirty minutes, maybe not at one sitting, but during a day's time. both of my boys bring books home from the school library all of the time and they love to have reading time especially at night time, right around bed time.
take care and have a beautiful evening.

Right now, my daughter doesn't know how to read, but she loves to be read to. There are times when I'm not able to read to her, so I try to read to her when I can. Of course, it's a matter of getting her to agree to only one book a night. lol If I were to allow her to, we'd read 4 and 5 books a night.

I think it's important for kids to get into reading at an early age so they can develop it as a good habit for the rest of their lives. I started reading books on my own around 8 or 9 and I would read for an hour or more if I could.

I think I was in about 4th grade when I started really reading books. I started reading The Baby-Sitters' Club series. I love reading those books, on occasion, even though I'm almost 29 years old.

It depends how old your child is. 15-30 minutes isn't much for 12 years old, I think. I don't think children need daily reading, unless they don't have school reading lessons. It's important to teach your children joy you can get from reading. With reading you can get in all kind of different worlds. Reading isn't technical task only and it's important to show your kid.

Well, for me when I was a child, I love to read fairytale books. As I grow older, my interest switch to fantasy novels especially those by David Gemmell and R.Salvotore. My typical reading time depends on my schedule. If it is a weekend, I would most probably complete around 100 pages( I am a real nerd huh, haha). If it is a weekdays, it would be 1 chapter or so.I believe a child should cultivate the habit of reading from young to increase his knowledge and perspectives.
