my aunt recently asked me which laptop to buy and I actually have many choices for her. Can you guys help me to decide what will I recommend her?
Well, the laptop's just for general use, usually, internet surfing, video chatting, gaming, typing and stuff. Should be able to store big files like I need a huge memory laptop and of course, nice and very outstanding performance.
what laptop could you recommend me? would appreciate it if you could suggest one. thanks.!

any models with brand toshiba is nice. i do recomment acer, because it has better monitor, it has super crystal view, if you wanna compare with toshiba. For what purpose your aunt wanna buy it? If she will type and spend times with her laptop, busy with jobs etc, i recommend for brand toshiba. its strong and better in performance. Get the higher ddr-ram and also internal memory. The higher the better. and make sure that you will have the international passport warranty, so you must buy in its dealer...
But of course, if you wanna buy a good one, the price also will be good... you know.
well, it depends on the budget, how much probably the price that will be affordable for your aunt?
I also suggest you, if you wanna buy laptop, ask someone who already knew or using laptop to accompany her to buy it, because the person may help a lot when your aunt has so many things to be asked (and especially if she is a shy person), or you can ask the personnel in the dealer, they may help you, but dont rely on them too much, who knows that they just only want to "sell" and not to "help"...

Minimally I would say you should go for one which has a decent processor (1.6Ghz or above) and with at least 512MB of RAM (memory). For storing large files you will also need a fairly decently sized hard drive, I would say about 40GB at least.
So, minimally: 1.6Ghz CPU or above, 512MB RAM or above and a 40GB hard drive or above.

any laptop would be ok but if you'd like it for playing games or such, do upgrade your RAM to the max!

I think you know what it is that you want, since you said the specifications and everything.
HP's the best when it comes to those things, really. Gives you enough bang for the buck.
I use SONY VAIO. It's for general use as well, but the only difference is that I specifically requested for a white laptop. And they got this one on a sale from the States. US$550, they say.
It would be another option if you actually went to a computer shop and have people over there see if they have a laptop with the specifications you want.
And--again, you can go to the brand's website and check it out there if you find out what you're looking for. Dell, for one, lets you customize your laptop according to your specifications--but that would only be good if you had enough cash to shell out.
Happy hunting!

It completely depends upon your budget and what will be intended use. Nowadays almost everybody is offering so called Huge Memory Laptop. You can go for a DELL one. One advantage is the you can customize or configure your laptop. And second and most importantly, its service is good. You just have to call them and they will give you the on-site service which is one of the advantage. Secondly as it comes directly from the manufacturer without any agents or links you get it at reasonable price.

As the laptop is for general use i suggest you to go for DELL or lenevo basic models. You can get huge memory with hp laptops and even dell offers huge memory but is few bucks more.
I suggest you to go for DELL.

It really depends on your budget. If you're wanting cheap then you have to go with something like an HP or an Acer. I recommend these over Dell because I can't stand Dell. Acer is actually the top competitor with Apple for notebook sales in 2008. That definitely says something for their computers. I, being an avid mac user, would suggest a mac if you're looking for outstanding performance and quality. Let me say that again. Quality. Apple is by far the best quality product I have used to date. If I ever have a problem with it, I take my mac to the apple store and they try their hardest to fix it right there on the spot. Every time I have gone in there, they make me very happy when I leave. So if you want quality and great costumer service, mac is the way to go. Don't listen to these people who say the compatibility isn't good. I have never had a problem with anything going from Mac to PC or vise versa. What is also great about Mac is you can actually run Windows on it for when you want to game. You can either run Boot Camp, which allows you to 'boot' your computer in either Windows or Mac OSX, or you can run a program in Mac OSX called Parallels. This program allows Windows to run inside of OSX. For your gaming situation I would suggest Boot Camp. So those are my suggestions. If you have any questions about either Mac or PC, feel free to ask!

Well, since she only needs a PC for general use, I guess that you could get a simple laptop with no specific technican requirements..
I would recommend you visiting a store selling PCs, they usually have bargain prices for such laptops, especially those of brands like Acer and Lenovo.

Well, to start your laptop search, go for one of these brands, i.e. HP, Compaq or DELL.
Dell are the best when it comes to quality. Their laptops are generally a bit heavier in size compared to others but then its worth it. Earlier they used to be really expensive as compared to others but now they have cut down on the prices as well, so it would be my automatic choice if I were to buy one now.
HP and compaq have always been the reliable brands. In fact, HP has taken over compaq some years ago so they're practically the same when it comes to the internal structure. HP laptops have better finishing as well so they look better than compaq and are slightly expensive.
Hope this reply helped :)
