What is more important, EDUCATION OR EXPERIENCE?

This has always been a heated discussion in my ESL class. In this extremely competitive world, what do most employers look into? Are they willing to hire undergrads but with proven job expertise? Or would they gamble on neophytes with diplomas and eager to start a career? What is given more importance, EDUCATION or TRAINING?

I think both of them are important specially when we are looking for job but I think experience is more important but it still depend on what kind of job you will try to get. It is hard to get a job if we don't have any experience even we are a graduate student but if we already have a job experience, sometimes companies are the one that looking for them. I think the advantage of the person who finish their school is they can easily get a job which in high position.

I agree with you. It depends on the job some look for experienced graduates and this is mostly happening now. So better get the experience after high school . This works by the time we complete the graduation. we can even get the high position.

It depends on the skillset required for the position and the firm's policy with respect to human resources. If the company is say young ang looking for a young cloogue who can learn fast, then these guys would obviously go for young people. If the position is a managerial cadre then definetely the experinced is going to get a job.
If for a given a job, both experienced and inexperinced people apply. And the inexperienced shows promise and ablility to make things happen then the company would defenetly look up to him,as he is freah and brings in new energy and the work moves on.

experience is still the best teacher.you can learn a lot from experience rather than from textbooks.also, the real personality and behavior comes out when faced with different situations.textbooks can provide basic information needed, but these information will remain basic if they are not applied.I read that some of the best employees are those who are willing to learn and not afraid of change.

hey,
Both are important .Education with experience helps us to understand the job better. In today's world they are asking for minimum graduates. Graduation along with experience is added advantage to any job.

Hi friend, both of them are important, we get education from our school and college and get experience with our training and practical knowledge. If we are good in both, it is most preferable to the employers to select us for job

i think education is more important.lifes an experience of sorts and we get experience along the way.we have certain groups of nurses here, who think they are better off than doctors(freshers)as they have more experience, but they can never surpass the knowledge of doctors, they get stuck at some point or the other.

I think I'd go for Education as long as the education received had quality - a university with a good reputation. We'd end up training the new employees - with or without experience - anyway. And I'd rather go for a clean slate than someone who already had experience but would be harder to teach because of formed habits from previous employment :)
Thanks for the response on my discussion!

Iam new to this website . while viewing the website i happened to see your page. The Question that you have asked is interesting . But i think both should be there in an individual to succeed. But personally i feel Experience has more weightage , since it makes you to learn many things practically.
