Gita is not the epic, The Mahabharata is the Epic. Gita is an integral part of the Mahabharata, its Lord Krishna’s discourse on life, how we should lead our lives to attain peace in ourselves. It is basically a guide to us Hindus in our path, our journey of life.
BTW, The Mahabharata is my favourite too, I like it much more than The Ramayana.

Although I am an agnostic type of person, but I fullly respect in every angle of life to one's religious belonging, custom, culture and the whole set of belief's practice. As it is all about self belief which truly runs in the blood, mind and soul's believer. Me and mine, I always be on my practice to know more and more what is "God state" and things related to me and myself.
