I have always wanted to write a book. I don't know what about. but I have this problem with starting it, and keeping to that story line, and I am very bad at thinking up ideas. Well not bad, I can come up with a bunch of ideas, it's just the fact that I can't stick to one. Has anyone ever wanted to write a book? Does anyone have any ideas for me that could help me out?

Try taking a creative writing course - there are a number of free or very inexpensive ones available online (doing a good search will produce some good results). There are also a LARGE number of websites with articles about how to get started with writing a book, keeping your ideas organized, and making good use of notes that have been compiled. It's a lot of work writing a book, and it's even more work learning how to get it finished. You might also want to check the writing section of your local library for some resources, as well. There's a lot of very good information out there if you don't mind doing some digging and some research.

Thank you. That was actually a lot of help. I think I'll check out some courses online and go to my library. It'd be great to have a book written and published some day.

go to your local library and read books how to write. this will help you a great deal, also, you should start your book with the middle and ending first, not the beginning.

Great advice Cher, I've heard of this method before so there must be some truth to it, I would imagine? What I'd have to question would be if all books should be written in this same manner? Would it not depend on everything that's going on in the story line? Just curious, would love to get a response.

There are plenty of websites and books on writing prompts. You can just do a search on creative writing prompts and you will come up with a bunch of websites. I think the one I used most often was creativewritingprompts.com (but I could be wrong - I'd have to look it up and I think it's on my other computer). One I came across recently which is really, really good as it asks you for some information on what you want to write about first. It's called seventhsanctum.com. Books include Judy Reeves' "A Writers Book of Days". Writer's Digest has a ton of books they produce and sell on writing and writing prompts. You have to learn to focus though. Come up with the story and stick to it. It's okay if the story changes; you can go back and make changes during editing. There's lots of help out there but only you can do the work. Good luck!

I've wanted to write a book before as well, and have found that my story line changes often. There is this site that has generators of different story plots and such, characters as well. I don't remember the name exactly, but I believe it is the seventh sanctum . com. If that doesn't help, try reading help books on how to write a book as they may have techniques to keep your concentration so that your story line remains constant. Have a wonderful day!

Hi Samma00! I was always writing something, litlle storyes, poems, biggest thing i ever wrote was unfinished story ''Music of your heart' for Brokeback mountain fandom. I really love to write and like you i have problem finding ideas. When i finally find them, i dont know how to make it in book or story. My latest idea is about one of my fave books/movies and one of my fave tv shows. I aways wanted to team up with someone, have someone i can write with and talk about everything related to that, so if you want the same send me PM! Hope to hear from you very soon!

Hello, now it is easier than ever to write and publish a book. You should persevere to finish a book, achieve your goal and gain satisfaction. Do not dwell too much on the quality of the book, not one writer could get it right at the first go. Once you can finish writing a book, I am sure you are more capable of producing your second and third. Even if the quality or the plot is not top of the class, it is possible now to opt for self-publishing. Realize your dream and be an author, search for useful resources online.

Hello there, many writers have the same problem as you have. What you want to do is first start writing down your ideas, don't pay any attention to how silly or how serious you may think your ideas are. Just write them all down. Next take your list and put it aside for a few days, then go back and look at it again, jot down a few more ideas as they come to you. After you have about 20 or 30 different ideas then you can make a decision based on which ideas you like the best and the least. Start crossing out the ones that you don't really like. Until you're down to about three that you really like, then make a choice from there. Another thing that I would probably advise you to do is to go and sign up to take a writing course. You can take one at a nearby community college. But if you aren't interested in going that route, just try writing a few short stories and begin gathering them up. After you have at least fifteen to twenty of them, why not look into self-publishing? Hope this helps...........Good luck and happy mylotting!
