I was reading a theory from Karl Marx and I intended to ask this because it sounded logical.
Did the upper class in society create "Gods" so other people could believe in them and prevent us from trying to our FULL potential because we have morals, spend our Time and Money on god and expect to go to Heaven so we don't have to worry about Living to our Fullest here'.
After this other religions were formed and now we all(most of us)think gods really do exist.
This was bothering me for a while.
Happy Mylotting!

This is very interesting. A strong view albeit somwhat bias. No matter what you state you never saw 'hell' or 'god' so you cannot prove this to me. No matter how you wish to convert person wit hyour religious propaganga it depends on the person, correct. So dis jus shows you are simply completely brainwashed by what you belief - and maybe me because i felt hurt when you said i was going to hell.

Hi bossladdy, The idea of Gods is as old as the human race and probably predates history. Anyone can create the idea of a God or Gods but no one has ever been able to prove that such a being or beings exist. I don't believe in the God that most people talk about but I think we are spiritual being having a human experience. Blessings.

Interesting. Could you please elaborate on what basis you have founded your spiritual beliefs?

Hi Hawaiigopher, It comes from a lifetime of thought, observation and meditation. While there have been great masters and still are those from whom we can learn much, it is always best to go within. This is what Christ meant when he said "the kingdom of God is within you". Blessings.

The ancient Greek philosopher, Aristotle, actually touched upon something similar concerning men in power faking beliefs:
“A tyrant must put on the appearance of uncommon devotion to religion. Subjects are less apprehensive of a legal treatment from a ruler whom they consider god-fearing and pious. On the other hand, they do less easily move against, believing he has the gods on his side.”
To me, the origins of religions simply comes from the unknowns. A look in the sky gave us inspiration to make personified characters; a Sun god, the members of the zodiac, the god of the wind, god of the snow, god of the rain, etc... Like all things, the religions eventually developed into more complex stories. Some religions failed to pass the trial of time while others succeeded. And so goes the story of evolution. Nowadays, we have the remnants of all these pass religions. Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, etc...

"God" is just a being created by the rich, the influential, especially the priestly class to make a living and to control others. The rest of the people believed in this God because taking responsibility for ones own life is really difficult and nobody wants to do it. It is easier to lay the blame in God, to say that God will see to things, than to stand on one's own feet and take responsibility. There is no God like this. Divinity exists in each and every one of us, and it is up to us to realize this "potential" within us.
Cheers and happy Mylotting

This was exactly my point. Our achievements all depend on our 'potential' I don't understand why it should be true because it shows humans as a whole in a poor light is we MUST depend on something like this. I wonder if people could do something like this - if something could create something that makes us all stronger as a whole.

This is a persons theory and last time I check Theory was not fact. Theory could be defined as speculation: abstract thought or contemplation. Everyone is entitle to there own belief. If he or you believe this is the situation please don't break your theory. But I believe otherwise. God is true nothing made up, and this is my belief and theory.

I respect your beliefs but the reason it is a theory is because it cannot be proven. No-one is alive from that far back to accurately say yea or nay. And those who could were probaly shut up, and records destroyed OR were covering it all up!

Each country has its own religion and its own "God".Anyway, God is like something living in your mind. You believe he exists, he exists. YOu believe not, he is not exist. you believe he is aroud you, he is around you. you believe he is far away from you, he is far away from you. whatever who creat him. It's all about "belief".
Sometimes having one belief is good thing for you.

But God can either exist or not exist, it doesn't matter what people believe.

I think this is very true. In my opinion, God was created by the ruling class in nexus with certain other influential and intelligent people, who were later made priests, once God was ‘discovered’. In many ancient civilizations, you will find the kings being thought of at par with God or God’s representation on earth and only the priests were allowed to communicate with God through complex rites and rituals, which they shared with none. In some societies, the priests were more powerful than even the kings. Land, money and power was shared by and kept confined to the ruling and priestly classes, all in the name and fear of God.

No, I don't think so at all, why would man want to limit their fellow man from their full potential by creating morals and wanting people to devote their time to a theory that they made up?
It's more logical that if, in fact, religion is man made, it is the result of a gap of knowledge of the unknown and some sort of mental illness or abnormality that allowed men to think that they were receiving messages from God.
Marxist ideology is a religious one. It is a complex religious system similarly resembling layman, elders, clergy, and a pope, with an interest in helping people reach salvation - not in the afterlife but here on earth, through material abundance. There are serious flaw with that ideology, if you'd like to see my topic on heaven on earth through material abundance it's in the religious form somewhere.

What is wrong with morals and how does having them stop people from fulfilling their full potential? People in the upper class are not exactly our geniuses. Point and case: George W. Bush. The geniuses of our species want only to think. Religion is philosophy. Religion is an attempt to explain our existence. Religion contains laws that form how we go about justice. People in the upper class/our leaders aren't our philosophers. They can barely sign their own name. Religion does not keep us obedient to our leaders. Religion is only obedience to God.
Karl Marx lived in poverty, living off his wife and Engels, so obviously having time to waste did not help him get rich or live life to his fullest.
Living life to the fullest in your terms must mean having fancy cars, owning luxury, items, living in a mansion etc.. My concept of living life to the fullest is understanding myself and looking toward infinity. Nothing makes me feel more alive than looking into myself.
Besides you can control people without God. We seen it under communism.

All cultures across history and the world have created gods not just those with class systems. For example the native american tribes all worshipped various deities such as Wakatanka for the Sioux yet they had no class system.
A better phrasing might have societies with class systems exploited religious belifes for their own benefit and in order to keep the proletariat in their place?
Personally I believe religion itself isn't the problem but organised religion - the church - is to blame.

Religion has existed since the dawn of time. I don't think gods were originally created to control the underclass, but rather to explain the world. However, rulers have been using religion for ages to keep their subjects. Who would dare rebel against the king if they knew that God was on his side? But manipulating religious ideology for your own gain is completely different than creating gods in order to control people.
