Ever Started A Discussion And Someone Else Had Started The Same One?

Have you ever started a discussion here on MyLot and then been browsing threw New Discussions and seen where someone else had already started the same discussion? This just happened to me. I started a discussion on how do you like your coffee and then was browsing and seen someone else had already started this discussion. It makes me wonder if my discussion will get deleted because people will think I copied off of that person. Has this ever happened to you? Have you ever started a discussion and then seen where someone else started the same one?

Your question brought to mind a question that I had, when starting a new discussion you do a search first for what you want to talk about, right? Well my question falls under, if you find a couple of similar discussions, but they are 2 months or more since last being responded to, is it ok to post your discussion? Or in other words, what is the shelf life on an old discussion?

Yeah, it happens. There are so many discussions that it's really hard to go through all of them to see if yours is totally unique. It's happened to me when I talk about current events or something. I was afraid that I would start a duplicate discussion about the TV show Medium since I just saw a commercial for the new season. I checked in the interest group before I posted. Now, I didn't check things like "watching TV" to see if it was posted there, but at least I did check somewhere.

I started a discussion once and a month later one of my friends started the exact same discussion. I was a little sad because she got a lot more responses to the same topic. Then later I was yet another friend started the same discussion, and she had less response, so I guess.... we are all just on the same page.

Yes. There are a lot of instances when I started a discussion and then someone had already started the same topic I am thinking. Well for me that is common since mylot has a lot of members and we can't think of many topics within a discussion. So it is better to just respond and then look for topics that suits your taste and knowledge.

I have noticed that I will post a discussion and then find one pretty similar to mine, just worded different... I think with everyone posting, someone may read one and then it makes them think of another way of asking it... perhaps. LOL Or I will finally come up with a discussion and log on to find that someone has posted a discussion already...LOL, ok that has happened alot to me in the last few days.. happy mylotting!!

Yes I have done it a couple of times, the trouble is I do not always check if the discussion has already been done. I think I have had a couple deleted due to not checking it out first.

No, it never happened to me. Maybe because I still don´t have enough time here on mylot. I have the account for about 6 months but just from last month I started to be really active here. So I still didn´t have enough time for that. And mylot is sooo big that I think this must be common to happen.

This happens often here on mylot i think. I have had this situation but it was not on the same time. But most of the times the discussion i start, i find it later that it has already been started by someone. But not on the same time. Once i started a discussion about earning money thorugh pickjack, and there was someone else who have started the discussion with almost the same discussion headline. What a co-incidence.

I have before. The other day though someone started the same discussion just worded differently that i started a week ago. It kind of made me mad but i just went browsing and let it be. He wasn't a newbie so i dont see how he could of started something similar as mine.

i think maybe that's just some coincidence. and i've never really experience it. well sort of. but i don't take it as a rival or something. everyone here in myLot should cooperate and help to earn more among ourselves ya?

It's inevitable that this should happen. Don't stress it too much. As long as your title is different and it's not an obvious copy and/or paste, some subjects are going to be written about over and over. And if some moron reports you falsely and gets you deleted, take it on the chin and just post another discussion. With a membership as large as mylot's, it's a crap shoot when it comes to posting a discussion that hasn't already seen the light of day. I won't report you. I promise! LOL

That happened once. Because the search for questions was not working. When I posted it, there was the second question similar to mine and I can't erase it any longer. So I just let it be. What can I do, I can no longer delete it. Happy mylotting.

Ya it has happened to me also. Of course no one would do that on purpose. Sometimes the search that I make doesn't work. Haha. The search is done based on the tag and I would enter the tag that I wish to use and if that person have added different tags, we won't get the proper result. Once after posting the discussion, we get the similar discussions right. Only at that time I would know that the thread has been done already. Haha. It just happens and there is nothing to worry about it I guess. Happy mylotting.

Yes, this happen to me once, i don't search a discussion what i want to create with my own discussions. After i search it, wow my topic seems has been same with other member. This because i forget to search a discussion, i think i must to be carefully when i create a new discussion again.

Hi Singlemommy, I haven't had that happen as of yet but I think it should be considered that some discussions may come up that are alike or even with the same topic but everyone's discussion is individual and if your responses are your own, I would think you will be OK! BTW I like my coffee with just cream or half and half, like my mom, well almost, she liked hers black. I just can't do the straight thing yet!
