With the kind of form he is in and his further quest for perfection I am sure he would retain his No.1 position. He has already surpassed Roger Fedder and maintaining a healthy lead in ATP points. Of course, Roger Fedderer will be aiming to regain his top spot as he is not cofortable in top-but-one-below position. It depends on the outcome of Australian Open. If Nadal wins, his confidence would go up like anything and he would be unstoppable till French Open. Then Wimbledon comes. Roger is still there desperately wanting to avenge his unbelievable defeat in the hands of Nadal last year. Apart from Roger, Novak Djokovic is hunting for the No. 1 spot. Nadal, if plays consistently well, may retain No. 1 position not only this year, but a few more years ahead.

Though I'm a fan of Roger Federer, I really appreciate Rafael's bravery and aggressiveness on the court, especially his humbleness after any success. He has made great progress in perfecting his tennis skills and I'm sure he can retain his No.1 position throughout this year smoothly.

I think that without a doubt Federer and Nadal will be #1 and #2. The only question will be which one will be 1 or 2? They are already in the Australian Open final. I think whoever wins the first major of the year might get an advantage. Djokovic will lose a lot of ATP points because last year he won the Open and this year, he was ousted in the quarterfinals by Roddick. He might fall to #4 this year behind Murray.

Eventhough feddrer is still a better thinker of the game, nadal should find is it easy to maintain the No;1 ranking this year. Andy murray is catching up but will require time to overtake nadal. The way nadal is playing, only an injury can prevent him from retaining his No:1 position this Year.
