work at home

I read a prediction that sometime in the future, office works, or any work outside the home will no longer be the in thing; that online jobs will already be the fad. Can you imagine a society where everyone works at home through the computer? Is that possible? Well, maybe, a judge can hear a case in the comforts of his living room with the witness and his lawyer somewhere in another place and the other party and his lawyer someplace else. They could just be linked by a video or some telecommunication facility. But the fireman cannot put out fire from the internet nor a dentist pull out a tooth from his cell, right?

there are already thousand of people working from home, some have only 'work form home' job and they have been doing it for ages. there are some full-time employee in a company who also works from home 2 or more days/week. you are right in saying that working from home is become very common and in near future there will be thousands more people working from home.

I agree with you. But there are some latest technologies like fax, email, video conference. So that you can share your data and ideas from home itself.

i think what you are saying is correct. A fireman can not put out fire from the internet. So, there are some fields which can not be done online or using computer. So this all work from home culture will mainly in the software industry, Education industry. But there are still industries where in there is always need to be physically present e.g Manufacturing industry.

There are definitely some obstacles to ALL jobs being performed at home. You mention firefighters and dentists. Additionally, at least until an alternate form of energy is 100% adopted, oil/gas refineries and distribution outlets (gas stations) will need to be operated. I suppose that even these could be operated remotely with the proper equipment, but the delivery of the gas to the station still would require a driver for the tanker truck. You can shop/sell from home over the internet, but someone still has to deliver your products. Webcams enable the idea of a 'home based' courtroom, though. Given the judicial procedure and sensitivity of certain cases - as well as the required presence and potential incarceration of the defendant - would likely require our current system to remain in place for quite some time to come. So, yes, I think that there will be a lot more jobs done via the internet. However, I do not see a total conversion to it any time in the near future.
