Okay folks, maybe I have just a a wee bit too much time on my hands, but I'm sitting here watching television, and apparently teenagers have a new hobby to help them pass the time. It is called to the punching game? Has anyone alts heard of this? Particularly parents, do you know, that children are asking their friends two punch them and I quote " just for fun"?Of course, what the kids don't know, is that if they allow themselves to be hit or checked in the face, they are putting themselves at risk for head and neck injuries and or brain damage, that can result in death. Have you heard of this? The punching game? As always, your thoughts and comments are greatly appreciated.

I've never heard of this actually. I knew that the choking game was and may still be a big thing but I did not know that punching was becoming a fad among teens now. I'm not sure where kids are learning these kids of things but I think they really need to lay off of them. Someone needs to step in and teach their kids about right and wrong and dangerous and not dangerous.

Yes, I'm assuming that this is a spinoff or an alternate version of the choking game. While the choking game is extremely dangerous I can understand the kids wanting to do it because the lack of oxygen does cause one to have a temporary feeling of euphoria or a "high" as some kids call it. But what is with the punching, and in particular the punching in the face? I just don't see a high or a payoff from it? I just don't understand!

There are a variety of punching games we played back in high school or middle school. Sometimes the guys would stand right in front of each other and they would each take turns punching each other in the chest. It went on until one of them gave up or couldn't take it any more. Another game played by both boys and girls was one where you each took turns punching each other in the upper arms until one of you gave up. In retrospect, these were stupid game concepts - especially the one where they punched each other in the chest. However, kids are kids, so I guess you just have to expect them to come up with stupid ideas.

Upper arms are one thing.... Chests, faces, and necks are another... Perhaps I'm just getting old, because this sounds absolutely ridiculous to me and I never would've considered anything like it as a child or a teenager.

Teenagers are always inventing dangerous games. The punching game, the choking game, train surfing, skitchin, etc. This is a way for them to esssentially cross the barrier between child and adult.Teens often feel a need to flirt with danger and as they get older this tends to pass. Also in my theory it weeds out the unintelligent individuals from the gene pool.

I think punching has been around for a while. I wouldn't really trust the news trying to convince you that this is some huge problem. I did many way stupider things as a kid. I think we'll all be okay.

Wow, that's new. I've never heard of it either, I have some teenage friends that sometimes get violent but not for fun. They're probably bored with the saying "it's all fun and games until someone gets hurt."

my son brought this game to my attention a couple of months ago, when he showed me a video on his phone of himself and a 19 year old punching eachother. they call this game "body shots". my son just broke his hand two days ago from hitting a friend's elbow when he missed his target. i know that this is a serious game, and am browsing to try to get some information on it. I am worried.....

Personally where is the Adult supervision of Parents, teachers, etc to continue to allow things like this to happen? Are they just sitting there watching thinking this is all a game until something serious happens to one of the kids before wanting to intervene? Do they just think this is a Fun game to watch? Personally I think they are allowing it to go too far, and something needs to be done for sure before this goes even further and we see a lot more serious fighting etc. coming from this as well.

I have been guilty of this punching game when I was in my teens, however once it got so bloody that we resolved to entirely change rules. Sometimes to settle disputes or rivalry with other kids it usually involved standing close and giving a single punch regardless of the target's area, then it was your turn to get one and it went on until one of the people involved gave up, however it did get really serious if both the persons were stubborn. We however bought changes immediately which became a light version of usually punching on the fist or the forearm. Later we completely went ahead and stopped the whole game because some other youngsters who just wanted a tough image were getting serious injuries and you couldn't exactly say that I got shoved and fell face first whilst playing football or anything like that. However I think that it can be pretty dangerous because in a normal fight you get to defend yourself but here you are an open target and the jeers and comments of the onlookers just add more fuel to the fire.

OMG! Thanks so much for the heads up. My sons are at the basketball game right now but as soon as they get home I am gathering all four in my office and ask them about this punching game. I will be letting them know not to get involved. Nt only is it dangerous it could lead to a big lawsuit from a parent to another parent. NO NO NO! nobody that lives in this house will be participating in the punching game.

I haven't heard of it recently. We used to do this sort of thing when we were 12 and 13 ...we only punched arms and I'm not sure what the point was. We were just dumb kids. I remember my brothers playing some game with burning each other with cigs and we were still only like 14 maybe. Now that I am older and a parent myself, I can see why my parents were so frustrated with us.

This is very dangerous and very stupid. Even blows to the chest can be lethal if done with sufficient force. Specially when your hyped up. This trend hasnt reached the philippines though and i hope it doesnt

Wow punching the head. That must be pretty dumb to do something like this. Ive seen people done finger length punch games. Bloody knuckles where they punch each other till they give up or bleed. Never seen anyone bleed yet but depends on the person. It isnt safe to punch anything below the waste or above the neck its sounds pretty dangerous and someone has to stop it from spreading or be smart and not do it. Thats for telling me, even though I never seen anyone do this kind of thing to pass. All I see are people on there cells texting 24/7, its like doing everything with it eat, sleep, and learn....ruins people

This thread was the first time I have heard of this. But it brought to mind a similar but more dangerous game we used to play as kids. We used to almost hyperventilate then someone would press on your chest and you would pass out. There had to be some danger there...lack of blood to the brain or somthing. I'll find out if my daughter knows anything about this new game.

This is not a new game. In fact my Grandfather told me when he got back from the War (WWII), he and his brother would test each others toughness and punch each other in the gut for fun. We did the same thing in High School where we'd trade arm punches until one guy gave up. I wouldn't let anyone hit me in the face though. That would just be going to far. I'd have to fight someone.

I am not sure if that is a new thing. I remember when I was younger people playing it when they are really bored. I know it seems really stupid but kids do weird stuff I feel. I hope it is not some kinda of fad that is becoming really popular or something of that nature. I hope that their parnets are aware of the dangers invloved as you stated. Happy mylotting to you and have a nice evening.

That's nuts! Kids come up with such crazy things and have no idea the price they could pay! The worst scare I ever went through was with my oldest daughter about 2 years ago which would have made her 12 or fixing to turn 13. The school called and wanted to have a meeting. They told me she had been seen with friends that were "cutters". My daughter was a cheerleader,an A student, and even voted by her peers as a miss junior elective...big year book picture, role model type thing. I wanted to die...all I could think was she was cutting herself. I took her home and asked her to let me see her arms and everything else when I didn't see anything. She wasn't...whewww...But openly admitted she had friends who did..and bragged about it! I was in utter disbelief! She knew people who done this type of thing! I went through the whole riot act about infection and the lose of limbs. I tried to scare the crap out of her and even looked up horrible pictures on the net to show her! Education is the key I think. If these kids only knew....really knew...it might make a difference.
