Who shot him?

Well, i've watched this movie multiple times and i still don't understand the scene when Mc Clane shoots at the police guy. Was it Mc Clane that shoots at him or a bad guy? The answer lies somewhere in "Welcome to the party" but i can't find out. When he says 'welcome to the party' i dont think he is shooting, (although you can hear gun bullets) but is that a gun from somewhere else? because Mc Clane seems happy at the fact that his only contact to the outside world might die. Thankyou

After McClane tosses the body out onto the cop car, we would have to assume that the window is broken, Yes? As the cop car is being shot at a window gets shot out during the intial rounds. This is a bit confusing, but I feel based on that info that is was the bad guys shooting. As far as John being happy, its hard to say, maybe he was just amused with his line 'welcome to the party pal'. I hadnt noticed that he was amused with that before, I shall have to watch for that next time.
