Why would the Devil tempt us in such silly ways?

I have heard that the Devil rebelled against God, that is why he was thrown out of Paradise. From then on, his only intention is to defeat God and occupy God's throne.
For this, the Devil would require a large army. It would make sense if he revealed himself to us and tempted us to join his side. Instead of being thus practical, what is the use of tempting us to to do silly sins like having an extramarital affair or robbing someone etc.. What is the point?

I'm not clear on the whole thing with him getting thrown out, ive never actually seen that anywhere in the bible, but another one i've heard is that he hates mankind, and wants us all destroyed. That would be why he wants us to commit sins, so that we anger God, and he destroys us all.

true, but i think there is love even for the devil. God wouldn't tell us to love our enemies, if He did not love his own. People that wish for others to go to hell are evil, and do not know God.

hi frederick!
well his tricks may be silly, but they are working on people. and well, yeah, the devil would not want to display himself as an ugly man with an ugly costume, or else people won't believe him. with all his power he can transform himself. and since he is the god of this world, he can give people what they desiring, at the expense of their souls.
anyway, let us not be boastful but rather watchful because the devil is crafty. that we know. we should always pray and stand guard against all kinds of temptation.
take care and God bless you man!

Well, u have not anwsred the question.
Instead of tempting us to go against the will of God, couls he not just assume a nice figure and come to us and tell us to join his side n hos fight against God .
He could say that join my side and I will give you so much wealth. He could also tell us that hell is not a bad place, hell is better than heaven etc..

Because apparently they aren't so silly that they won't work.

The christians believe that the devil was tossed from heaven along with his followers who became his demons and as you called them his army. Dante depicts the devil as the arch demon ruling over he!! half frozen in ice and chewing on Judas with other bad guys in his hands. This is also part of the church's teaching.
The devil is supposed to be going around and encouraging his demons to possess people and make them do atrocious things. It certainly is a good excuse for misbehaving "The devil made me do it".
It is an interesting thing to note that it is usually christians who get possessed. I don't think Muslims get possessed, Jews don't, and most other folks don't.

Well I don't know. I think "the devil tempted me " is a pretty lame excuse for having an extramarital affair, isn't it?
It's just blaming someone else for one's doings.

Hi frederick, I am just visiting and not responding to the discussion. I avoid mylotting about religious topics as people can become upset and I have seen where strife has entered in other discussions. Blessings

hi Frederick, I agree and you are correct. do you feel that people who are tempted have proper knowledge of god or they have a clear idea what god wants us to do.
I feel few may be aware but unable to change as they dont have proper faith. enjoy mylotting
