Sims 2 flashing purple and red light!!! HELP!!!

Exactly what say is the title. Before i downloaded the sims 2 bon voyage and the freetime. Both have the flashy thingy on the neighbourhood panel but if its snowing, it has red flashy thingy. I don't know wht's wrong but its been like that ever since. I read on other blogs on the internet that its the old lightning mod but my dad help me fix it so i can't do anything about it until my dad knows how to fix it. Until now, HOW do you fix it? and i accedently bought a chinese version of sims 2 (all of it) and even though i'm asian (black hair, brown eyes) i'm born english (family joke. haha...not) can't read or write a lot of chinese stuff. Or to say, read a book without pin yin. whatever. anyway, can you change it back to english? or do i have to buy a version of english( hope not. cos it cost a lot)
