Do you stop for jay walkers?

When you are driving do you stop and let jay walkers cross the street?
Honestly, I do not. I think it's dangerous, especially in the winter time when it's hard for the cars behind you to stop. I always stop for cross walks to let pedestrians cross but if you're jay walking then you'll have to wait!
What about everyone else? Are you mean and nasty like me or are you more accommodating to jay walkers?

I think you kind of have to stop. I mean, what am I going to do, hit the person?
Around here you can get a ticket for not stopping if the person even has one foot off the curb. Some pedestrians are so stupid too they just dart out in front of you on a 45 mph street! But still, I will stop for them because I'm not about to hit someone. No matter how stupid they are and how much I wish they would not procreate.

LOL! I was imagining driving around and just plowing through all the jaywalkers!
I will honk and flip people off if they do something stupid enough. Like the guy who ran out in front of the 50 mph road tonight wearing all black. He's lucky my friend wasn't driving... she never turns her head and would never see a pedestrian! Thankfully I saw him.

Don't get me wrong, I don't zoom around trying to pick off jay walkers! If they are already in the process of crossing the street I will stop for them, and give them the evil eye as they go, but if they are waiting for cars to stop then I won't be the one who does.

I think it's crap that pedestrians should always have the right of way. That's why they made the crosswalks! I usually end up stopping just because I'm not one to want to fight a lawsuit. To much of my family time wasted. I think that it should be their problem if they don't use the crosswalk and if they get hit, they should be responsible for all damages, including any that could've been caused to the car that hit them!

I do stop for them, but I don't see a lot of jaywalkers in my town. Although, when I am in bigger cities, I see them much more often. I remember when I was a kid a friend of mine's dad got a ticket for jaywalking.
I really don't like to jaywalk. I am even nervous in those cross walk areas that do not have a light around them. May have something to do with me getting hit by a car when I was a kid...but even moreso, I just don't like to break rules. Even if it is mild and "everyone else is doing it".

I operate under the belief that pedestrians always have the right of way. But they shouldn't be jaywalking! The other day I saw a young lady with a walker cross the street not far from a crosswalk. She wasn't doing very well but was trying her best to hurry. I and the car next to me stopped but traffic coming the other way didn't and she was stuck in the middle of the street. I wondered if she got injured and had to use the walker because of her dangerous street-crossing habits!

You are right, they do always have the right of way - which is sort of contradictory if you think about it. It drives me crazy when I see someone crossing a mere 10 feet away from a crosswalk. I wont stop and let them go but of course if they're already on their way I won't run them down or anything. One of the biggest reasons I don't stop is just like the scenario you mentioned, just because I see them and stop doesn't mean other traffic did or will. It's just dangerous for everyone. Not to mention illegal.

Generally if there is any danger that I will hit them, yes I stop. If there's no other traffic around, I will also stop if I feel like it. If it's going to cause a traffic mess and there's no danger of me creaming them, they can wait! And when I see people jaywalking with children, that just gets my blood boiling!

I guess it depends on whether or not they give me the choice, and what sort of mood I'm in. Usually I'm driving with kids in the car, so I'm usually in a hurry because one of them is screaming! But if I'm not completely stressed, I might let them cross, especially if the weather is nasty.
I know there are plenty of times I've been out in the snow or rain with my kids, and trying to cross at a corner or cross walk and there were some rude people who wouldn't let me. The only thing I could think was "Yeah, no sweat off your back, you're warm and dry in your car while we're out here soaked and frozen, go ahead and drive right by while I continue to freeze"
So especially in nasty weather, I do try to stop if I can.

Jaywalking (crossing where there is no crosswalk) is illegal, people shouldn't be doing it in the first place. If someone is already walking across the street of course I will stop to avoid hitting them but I won't stop and wait for them to go if they haven't already entered the street. I always stop for people at crosswalks.

I stop for jaywalkers as in my State, all people on foot who are called "pedestrians" have the right of way...and if you do not stop for them... even if they are in the cross walk... you could be cited.
Also there is this little thing called weight...
The car weighs a lot and the poor human body does not.
I would not refrain from stopping for a jaywalker just in case he bolted in front of me ... as I would feel very guilty should I hit him and kill him.
It is risky as well as mean not to stop.

I stop for them if I have to, but not usually. If the weather is bad I try to be nicer, since it can be a bit of a walk to the nearest crosswalk or traffic light. But generally speaking, I feel no guilt about not letting them cross.

It depends on where they are in the street. If they're too close, I slow down to let them pass. Especially since I've seen people throw themselves in front of cars. Easy way to sue someone. They ran me over! I'm just too suspicious anymore.

It depends if I like 'em or not. No just joking. I don't try to veer them over. Just let 'em across. If they get to be a slow poke about it...rev the engine!

If I have a car, I would let them pass. I know that they are violating the law, but if somehow the jaywalker is hard headed and he pursue on crossing the road, I might accidentally hit him if I had the mentality of not letting them pass through. Then I would be in a bigger trouble if something happen to them.
