The other day I said that I felt ripped off by a company that offered free everything with getting a name search engine going (I incorrectly said affiliate marketing) but then hit me with a $10 a month web hosting charge. I cried FOUL and now they're offering to host it for free. So folks. Would you forget all about it, or plug on knowing that there's bound to be another scam round the corner?

I think I'd look at the fine print again, and ask them at what point they WOULD start charging. Eventually, if your site does well and receives a lot of traffic, they would likely start charging to cover their bandwidth costs. I initially started out hosting my site on a free site, but when I realized I'd be forced to upgrade to a paid package once I reached their free bandwidth limit, I found something else.

I would probably not bother with it. They might hit you with a fee later on.

I am not sure if I would go on with them or not, sounds like they really can't be trusted.. It may be worth your while to keep going with it, only if you have the time to fight it out, because you may have to fight the next scam they can come up with to get your money for these "free services".. Good Luck to you..

My question would be free for how long? I, personally would just leave it alone. They are going to come back, at some point and try to bite you, again.

You are NOT being cautious as you're seriously thinking about doing it. You know better, so why you thinking about it??? JUST DON'T DO IT!!!

In your shoes, I think i'd reason that as I'd already invested time and energy in this project, I'd be tempted to stick with it. Of course, it all depends how important to you the project is, and whether you can afford to ditch it at a future stage if the company continue their underhand tactics.

I can personally guarantee that just like cutting a head off the hydra, if you ditch one scam, another three will pop up to take its place. It's all part of life's rich pattern here on the weird and wonderful interweb, and it's no wonder we love it so much.
Hang in there and 'nil desperandum carboranda illegitimae'.

Hi p1key,
For me it would be once bitten twice shy, I wouldn't trust it again free or not, and just carry on with what I know and who to trust, I hate losing money. Hugs.

Hey there p1kef1sh
To be honest I think I would leave it. It sounds like they are trying to lure you in by using another tactic. I am very dubious of these sort of sites as I have read so many disapproving discussions about them here on myLot. I don't think I trust any of them!! Let me know what you decided to do just because I am nosy!!

Once bitten, twice shy should be the motto here. As they began dishonestly I'm sure they will try to find ways to make you pay. Stay away.

I think I would stay out of it for the reason I don't have time for that type of scam, I don't think many do.

I wouldn't deal with them, myself. They use underhanded methods to lure in people and make money off them. They're bound to have a few more tricks like that.

Hmm, I'm not too sure what a name search engine is, but if they said it would be free, then charged you, and then said it was free again only when you complained, I think that I would steer clear...
They sound like they would have ripped you off if you hadn't complained, and they're probably doing this to other customers right now! Personally I'd stay away. They sound dodgy.
