What kind of house do you want?

What kind of house do you currently live in, and what sort of house do you eventually want to own?
What's the worst kind of house you've ever lived in?
I have lived in almost every kind of house their is, except for a single family home. I've lived in an apartment complex, in a house that has 4 or 5 apartments, in a duplex, in a townhouse, and a mobile home. We're currently living in a duplex, but the other side has been vacant the whole time we've lived here.
We are looking to move very soon, and don't have the money or the credit to get the kind of house we want. We certainly don't want to live in an apartment at the moment, not with 5 kids (could you imagine the neighbors complaints?). So we're looking at another mobile home.
Eventually though, we'll probably own a split level. A friend of mine has one, and we love it. You walk in and there's 4 or 5 stairs leading up to the bedrooms, the main floor as a living room and kitchen, then there's another 4 or 5 stairs leading into a large family room below the bedrooms. I think that would be perfect for us! It would have all the room we need, but too many stairs worry me around the little kids. The house I live in now is a 2 story, but there's more than 10 stairs leading up to the bedrooms, and my little ones try to climb up and down them constantly.

Those are very pretty houses. They remind me of doll houses!

We live in a single family house. We have lived here for 5 years and what we are concentrating on now is trying to keep it. We live S. Florida and the cost of everything is just outrageous. We love our house but it eats up about 55% of our income. It has practically become impossible to live here...and this the only place my husband and I have ever lived. We have talked about moving but I honestly don't know what either one of us would do. I mean, we have never seen snow and he is 40 and I am 37. I have relatives that live up North and they all have split level homes and I like them alot. I always thought you had much more room with a split level, you just don't find very many of those here in Florida, at least not down South where we are.

You know, the Kentucky, Tenessee area has the lowest cost of living in the US, and from I know, they're still warm there, no snow. Maybe you could go there.
I'd love to move out of state, NY is somewhere in the middle of the 50 states as far as cost of living. We do have some of the highest taxes in the country. But moving to a new state is so expensive. Maybe someday, but not anytime soon. Plus I would miss the snow at Christmas if we moved somewhere warmer.

The house of my dreams is the one we're currently renovating, and the house of my nightmares is the one we're currently renting whilst we do so!
When it's completed, my house will be on three floors, with a bedroom, bathroom, working kitchen and store on the ground floor, an open plan living area with a library on the middle level, and more bedrooms and another bathroom at the top. The kitchen will be built on the front, accessed from the first floor, and there is a workshop on the back.
The house we're renting is dreadful because it's cold and lacking decent heating so it's damp. It's on two levels but you have to go outside to get from one to the other. It wasn't so bad in the summer, but the sooner we can get out the better!

The house you're working on sounds great! I want something along those lines someday.

I live in a mobile home now and I hate it!! It's way too small for us. Me and my husband moved into one only because it was cheaper than a apartment or house. We are looking to move in about 2 years into a house and I can't wait!! We have outgrown this place alot time ago and have bins everywhere I would love a 4 bedroom, at least 2 full baths, and somekind of rec room or basement. I just had our first baby in May and he is a beautiful baby boy and I would love to have 2 more -- a girl and another boy. Hopefully the ecomony gets better so I can do this!
Nice topic! Happy mylotting!!

I had 3 kids in a mobile home for awhile. It wasn't horrible. The worst part was storage space. When we move this time it will most likely be into another mobile home, and now I have 5 kids. We will be cramped to say the least, but that's all we can afford right now.

We're in a double wide right now. I don't mind a bit. The 5 steps up to the deck and into the house are getting to be more of as a problem as my messed up knees age. Its not always the house but its surroundings. I love our 3 weedy acres but how long will I have the needed zip to care for them even a bit? And the fact that we're out of town and the roads get icy in the winter.

We lived in a house that was split to be a duplex and then we opened it up to be a whole house. then we moved out of state to an apartment. Then we went back to a duplex. We bought a house but quickly hated all the things we thought we would love about it. Now the house we are in we are happy. The only down side I have discovered so far is we live right on main street in town so our porch is always dusty from the road. It makes it hard to have furniture on the porch. The inside is good for us, there is plenty of room to roam. I would love to gut the kitchen and remodel it to a more convenient layout but that would cost money we don't have.

I live in a single family home. I have lived in a single family home and an apartment with one other apartment next door to it a few times. I have never lived in an apartment complex though. I like the single family one story house with a basement, but like you I would like to have a split level. I had a boyfriend once who's mom's house was a quad level house. It was really nice. I would like something like that.

A house , not so big and not so small, high atop the hill. Or at the mountain peak. The yard must be large with a well manicured garden, a swimming pool and a viewing area where I can relax and have access to the scenic view around me. The house must have all the modern amenities that civilization could offer. If the place is not accessible by car , then there should be a helipad for a small biplane or helicopter..lol...I know you get the picture a modern house in the heart of mother nature where I can be left in peace to write. Happy blogging.

I would love a split level as well, almost exactly as you described. Laundry, big rec/family room, bathroom and extra/guest bedrooms on the lower level and then living room, master bath, kitchen and three bedrooms (master w/ en suite) on the upper. Whether or not that will ever happen is a different story! Right now we live in our 'starter' house - a 1008 sq ft three bedroom one bath rancher. It's nice and in a great neighbourhood but it won't be big enough when we decide to have kids.
The worst one I ever lived in was a townhouse. The actual house was ok but it was kinda in the ghetto. There was always dirty little children trying to give me cats they found.
