There I was doing my chores and getting aerobic with the vacuum cleaner when all of a sudden there was the most hideous clanking sound as I sucked up something that I shouldn't. I switched off and began my examination. Small, highly polished pieces of steel shrapnel poured out of the vacuum tube and I realised that I had a jewelry calamity on my hands. Somehow, a necklace had been left lying about and Mr Hoover had digested it spitting out the bits that he didn't want. Now I have to explain to one of my womenfolk how this accident happened. I shall live I expect. After all, it shouldn't have been on the floor in the first place. Have you ever sucked up anything interesting in your vacuum cleaner?

Oh pikey what did the hoover do??? Did you own up to it or just stayed quiet about it?? I have often hoovered things up that shouldn't have and had to go digging in the hoover bag for them (luckily when the hoover back is empty so wasn't too bad finding it.
I would blame the women, why was their necklace on the floor in the first place!!!

Years ago I had a cat. She had a litter of 9, count 'em 9 kittens. Frisky kittens. LOVED to chase the Hoover en masse. One day, there were only 8 kittens. You do the math! LOL My kids didn't speak to me for a week! And I never used that Hoover again. Left if behind when I moved..................I no longer have cats either.

Oh my, yes! My vacs have sucked in keys, child toys and dog toys, sand, rocks, and little hair ornaments. Earrings (mine), scraps of paper, nothing is safe from Mr. Vacuum Cleaner! My dog Gus hates him, I have to put him in a room and shut the door before I burn Mr. Vac on or Gus will attack him, I think he thinks that Mr. Vac will turn on me and suck me in!

Well as the owner of four children my hoover has filched its fair share of goodies in its life!! Socks, toys, pens, sweets and even a pair of undies are to name a few!! I am surprised at times the hoover is still running, its a Henry though and amazingly tough little hoovers!!

Well, I see you indeed did live to see another day..So whose was it? Jewelry is slippery and slides off things easily. My vacuum has sucked up socks,earrings,rings,screws..and many other things. I ruined my moms and dads vacuum once because of screws m dad didn't pick them all up so when I vacuumed it sucked up and tore up a good almost brand new vacuum they hadn't had but a few months. Dad was peed off but wasn't me that had the screws out. and it was a shag carpet and I didn't see it. that is why I like my stick vacuums because you can pick up alot of things and it will just go into a bag which you empty and it mostly doesn't tear things to shred's So did you have to replace Mr. Hoover?

I guess it would have sounded as if someone put a hand full of bolts nuts in a blender on hi..which would probably not give you the rubber burning smell though..lol

I remember once long ago in a place far away I was married to a gentleman that thought he was a handyman of sorts. He took it upon himself to take apart a very expensive stereo system. Well in doing so, he lost a very important teeny weeny chip that was imperative to the stereo running properly. We couldn't find it anywhere. In the meantime one of those "vacuum cleaner companies" that like to provide household demonstrations called and wanted to come in and give us a demonstration. I agreed and when they did asked to keep the filters. They were a little surprised, but nodded in agreement. There upon the filter lie the pesky little chip that had alluded us for so long. So you see, in this case the story has a happy ending. ROFL.

P.S. And no, I didn't buy the vacuum. After all the job had been done.

Well, lets just say it didn't perform near as well as it had originally. Which without a doubt ticked me off, as I gave it as a gift, and a very expensive gift it was.

I know that sound you speak of. I liken it to that of fingernails down a chalkboard... only not quite as chilling.
The strangest thing I got with my vacuum of late, was a cat toy. Thankfully, only a dollar store toy... but still, her favourite. Stick with a string with a ball that rattles at the end of the string. Apparently, the string is NOT strong enough to handle the vacuum going over it. Now we all know.

Oh, crikey, P1key ... I hope it wasn't the Crown Jewels! These days, my vac mainly only has dust - but in the early years it was usually full of Lego. I used to empty it very carefully over the bin so I could extract anything important (yuck) - and I do remember searching for the backs of earrings when the girls were in their teens. The WORST thing I have to contend with are used guitar strings in my son's room - I can't see them when they are lying on the floor, and the first I know is when the vac goes 'WHANG!' and makes a grinding noise and I have to stop everything in order to extract the damn thing from around the roller! I hope you didn't get spanked TOO hard ... or too softly, as may be your wont ...

It's cold here in the Tower of London. I am wondering just what that necklace was. There's a very nice man in a black mask here to see me. He must be a forester as he has a huge axe. Apparently he wants me to put my neck on this block here. I wonder what happens now............

all the time! panties alot! I leave them on the floor (most of them clean believe it or not), and I use a shop vac first before I use the upright vacuum (which is now broke, well the belt is), so it just sucked them up! Same thing with socks. I end up vacuuming alot of things up. And once I accidently flushed my bra down the toilet! lol.

All i have to say is "RUN"!!! of course it should have not been on the floor. course if it was important enough they would have put it away. But we are women and you the man should have been more careful!!! so i would tell you to run as fast as you can and hide in a good spot!! LOL

Of course you are right Momma. I should have seen it there, switched off the vacuum, stowed it, bent down and picked up the necklace, identified it, taken to it's rightful resting place, returned to the vacuum and resumed my work. Sheesh.... What a twerp I am! ROFL.

I wouldn't say that. A little (or not so little) furry thing that jumps on my lap and purrs at me when I'm down and troubled is priceless as far as I'm concerned. But they definitely are useless for vacuuming!

Not really. Usually all that gets sucked up around here is dust and teeny tiny little beads that I can't see once they hit the floor. Sure can hear it when they go into the vacuum cleaner, though.*L*

*L* At least it was pellets and not something that got stepped on and smooshed into the carpet.

Yup sucked up the cat just last week caught her tail and watched her spin round eating balls of fluff and what not luckily she survived and is clean and dust free. Not sure how long it will take me to clean the cat chunks out of the filter though *rolls eyes*

....kitty litter, but not me, one of my "brilliant" ex roommates decided this was the easiest way to clean up in the little closet where the litter box is...uh, no, it's not, actually, every time we turned the vacuum on after that? the litter would come spitting out, and make a bigger mess....really should of had him buy another one. OH WELL!
