i have an unusually HUGE blister on my 4th toe on the left and i am really tempted to pop it! haha. I know that i should just wait for it to dry up, but it is just so big anyway, what do you do when you have a blister? do you try to treat it or just leave it alone?

i put a small pinhole in one side and push the water out the other leaving the top on , that way it dry's from the bottom up and you have that layer of top skin to protect from infection.

That's the same method I use. If it's done early enough & well the skin won't even peel. If it's a real big one they should expect to have a layer of skin to remove within a few days.

I generally pop it with a sterilized pin and then cover it with antibiotic ointment and a bandaid. I've never experienced a blister that dried up on its own. They generally pop with or without my assistance.

really? mine usually dry up and then peel off after. but the one on my toe right now is the mother of all blisters that i have ever had in my life! I swear, it is so huge i had a smaller blister on my left foot last week (my rubber slip ons are to blame again) it's not as big as the one on my right foot now but it has turned dry and now looks like a callous. eew. will definitely put skin softener on it to speed up the peeling.

yes, new shoes that i am trying to get my feet used to they are actually very comfy except for the lower part of my oddly shaped 4th toe! It usually takes me a week or so to break in new shoes

Yes I am late responding Kate and by now the blister should be long gone and hopefully it healed without any trouble, or side effects, at all. When I get a blister I deal with it straight away because thelast thing I need when I am driving the truck is to have a sore foot. So I always carry a sterilised needle with me in the small first aid kit I have in the truck. I put a small hole in the blister and make sure that all the fluid is drained out, then wash it in some salty water solution (carry that in a bottle in the first aid kit. Then finally I use a small syringe and put some mecurichrome into the "blister" so that dries it out. Yes it does hurt a bit but the mecurichrome is sterilised and is used on wounds as a sort of antibiotic. At least that way I know that it will heal. Then I cover it with a bandaid and wear clean socks etc. Whenever I stop, I remove my shoes and socks and also take the bandaid off so that the air gets to the area and helps dry it out for a speedier recovery.

I think I've ever had one blister on my foot and I tried to leave it alone, but it rubbed open.

I had a bandaide over it, and kept one over it after it broke

aaw! hope it wasn't painful. the skin under is really soft and has to be covered with a band aid or some medical tape to avoid infection.
