Creating multiple types of freelance income

When I was first learning to build my freelance business I had a mentor who taught me what she did and how she did it. One of the first things she ever taught me was the value of having several types of income coming into your business at all times.
This means article writing should be one form of income, but it shouldn't be the ONLY income coming in. This is because if something happens to that one company you're writing for and they disappear, your income disappears with it. By having several options means that you're protecting your business and your income.
She said it was important to create your income types from things you enjoy - and not what others tell you to add. The reason for this is so that you can fill your business with jobs and assignments that you enjoy that still earn you money.
I break up my own writing income between several types of writing. Of course I write articles for magazines, but I write for some online article creation companies and some private clients as well. I receive royalties every month from a couple of ebooks I've written and also from anthologies that my fiction has been sold to.
I break up my days by throwing in some paid forum posting, paid blog posting and even a couple of paid reviews just to stop me burning out from so many articles. These are really low paying, but even small amounts add up very quickly if they don't take long to do.
My favorite type of writing income is also the most fun - I write and sell a lot of fiction stories. This is easily my favorite part of being a freelance writer.

I think one of the hardest things is what to write about. How do you come up with all your idea's? Do they just pop up in your head?
Maybe some day I'll be reading one of your books you published because you sure do sound like you're on your way.
I took a correspondence course for two years on writing for children. They taught me many things but it's been quite a few years. I do remember though how hard it was trying to find things that weren't already written about. It was quite the challenge shall we say, lol! But I did get through it. Right now I just have sooooooo much on my mind, I just couldn't imagine coming up with an idea and sticking with it. Do you know what I mean? I don't feel I could concentrate at this time is what I'm trying to say. Maybe soon, I hope.

I applied to write for a review website, but they didn't get back to me. What review site do you write for? :)

I have been wanting to write an ebook and sell some of my fiction just as you are doing, however, I do not know how to go about it. What sites do you use for these? If you do not want to answer on this discussion, just pm me with the details. Thanks.
