is shopping still a hobby or necessity?

With the recent economic situation... do you still think about shopping? I am talking about shopping-shopping not grocery shopping. And if you do where do you go to get a real bargain? And what do you usually buy?
I usually go to Marden's every now and then to check on the new things on sale. And most of the time, the items on sale are real cheap. I would usually buy items that I can give as gift to my loved ones. What about you?

When I got my income tax refund, I went to the store and bought some stuff I needed and groceries to last until I get my food stamps again. It helped a lot. I also bought some clothes for church, shoes, and such. Not a lot but I kept it in perspective. so in that case it was a bit of both.

I truly miss hobby shopping because, well, it was fun! I haven't hobby shopped since 1999, so it's been awhile. I used to buy things for my home (new pictures or whatever), art supplies, and clothes. Now, I only shop for what I absolutely need.

As for me, I only go shopping whenever I need to buy something. Well, I am just an average girl whom prefers to save my money for something important. Usually, the things that I buy are the things that I will need. Like for instance, I will only buy a new bag if my old bag is already much damaged and no longer attractive to the eyes. I will only buy new shoes if my old pairs are no longer usable. For me, it would be just a waste of time and money if I will treat shopping as a hobby. I am just 18 years old, and I prefer being practical with the current flow of economic stability.

Yes and no. Most of the time, I think going shopping or window-shopping, whichever the case may be, is my therapy to my daily problems. Whether I buy something or not doesn't matter. If I do get to buy, it will always be something that I want to wear or use, somethings for my kids, or something for the kitchen. When it comes to clothes, I try to buy from sale or discounted items.

It depends on what you're buying. Things like underwear, pants, shirts and shoes within reason as well as food are necessities. Some people, of course go overboard and buy lots of things they don't need and rack up lots of debt. For them, shopping is a hobby. All too often a dangerous one because they can never get out of the debt they create. For me, shopping is more of a burden and/or necessity and I don't enjoy it and I'm glad of that because I don't have the money to spend.

Oh I haven't gone shopping for a long time. It's been two years since I haven't got any regular earnings so I had to be frugal and buy only the necessities.
I do miss shopping a lot. Before I always go shopping but I have to resist temptation cause like what you said, economic crisis.
Ciao!

I love to go shopping, and would hate it if I ever had to stop!
I use earnings from sites like this to make sure that I can still shop as much as I used to.
I love it at the moment, because everyone is putting a sale on to try and get buyers into their shops, so you can get quite a good few bargains on the highstreet at the moment.
I think it's important for people to still go shopping, as if everyone stops it will only make the situation worse as more and more shops will have to close down.

You mean walking around some random shops and comparing prices and enjoying what you see, and just having fun around other peoples products? I do that frequently :P I especially love emporiums and antique stores and such, you know, places where they sell really old stuff and primitives and other just cool things, there is one store out here called the Surry Emporium, I love that store so much, They have old records, and comic books, and regular books, primitives, dolls, antiques, crafts, all kinds of awesome things, and I love to just go in and stare at things for long periods of time :P
