Packaging waste - the business and consumers

I am currently doing an applied research project for collage and other opinons on this topic would be welcomed. My main research topic is packaging and i am assessing this in terms of supermarket food packaging waste being sustainable and resource efficient. I have found this to e a hot topic at the minute what with the pressing issues of climate change, growing landfils and government pressure on businesses and consumers. There is also the fact that a high percentage of waste is coming from packaging. How do you think food packaging for large chain supermarkets can become continually resource efficient and designed to cut waste?
