What should I do if I become jobless?

The company I'm working with for more than 4 years now is in the process of dissolution. I have mentioned this for several times in other discussions but I haven't really tried to search or solicit for answers from fellow mylotters on how I'm going to go about this phase. The tentative schedule for our company's 2nd rationalization program is on March 31, 2009. Just for info, the first batch were displaced last year. As compliance with our national labor laws, they received a corresponding separation pay; and we are also aware that the rest of us or remaining employees are going to get what is due to us. In fact, our auditors have already computed the rates. And based on the schedule, I will receive about 60,000 pesos or approximately 1,200 dollars. However, payment for my personal loans will still be deducted from this amount. Roughly, I will have a net amount of 37,000 pesos (or 740 dollars). My spouse's job isn't stable and our daughter relies wholly on us. If you were in my shoes, how are you going to handle this pending situation? Suggestions are greatly appreciated.

i am in the same phase as you are right now. got tons of loans too! my suggestion is that, try to think of a business that will only need a small capital. maybe you or your husband can look after your business while one of you is applying for a job.

That's a great idea you've got there. I only hope that my net separation pay is substantial enough to start a lucrative business and for our survival. Although there are talks of extension, I'm sure that it won't be for a year if this pushes through. Good luck to us both.

I couldn't agree more. Anyway, I'm out of job for 3 consecutive months as of now. My funds have already dwindled. And without much choice, me and my daughter are staying with my parents at the moment while my husband continues with his job far away. I have pending job applications and I'm relying on any one of those to call me to say that I already got a job.

me too, i needed a job badly. i can't think of a business that will be enough for the money that i have right now as a capital. geez, if only we're a millionaire, maybe then, we wouldn't worry on what business will be suitable for our budget.

That is really tough... a lot of people are now getting affected by this global economic crisis... i hope things will turn out fine for you... At this point... i think you should think of other options... like start giving out your resume to possible employers... or think about simple businesses that you can do while you are still unemployed... these are the things that i will do for sure... Good Luck!...

I'm into this at present. I really have a tough job of handling all these changes but I'm still optimistic that somehow, we (me & my own family) could pull this through. I'm positive that whenever God closes a door, somehow He opens a window; just as a saying goes. Thanks so much.

You have to understand the situation that is currently prevailing and then try to make yourself worthy in the job market. You are losing your job and there is not much job openings. And you don't have much money like everybody else. I can't tell you which job you can search for or such other type of answers. But what I have to tell you is try to be positve in your thinking and preceptions. The situation around you should urge you to be more better than before as it is the fittest who will survive. Nobody want a pessimist to work in their firm in this present depressing scenario. Always think that you are going to end up in another job and the loss of your current job will only make you better. Try to have a lot of friends who know the existence of any vacancies any where. Try to do networking and be active in job sites and other professional sites like LinkedIn which helps you to get a free platform for a job search. Also never be let down by an initial failures , and try for the next job more enthusiastically. You know that it is a bad time and that the jobs are reserved only for the best. So take all prepartions possible before going for an interview. Try to learn new tips that can impress the interviewers. Send your resume to all the possible vacancies where your skills are needed.

Very well said. Relative to this, I've been trying my other options like direct selling, aside from registering with other online earning opportunities which other people (mostly mylotters) have advised me to. Further, I'm cutting costs on my daily transportation fares already. Instead of taking a more expensive ride, I'm taking the public jeepney so I could save at least half of my regular fare. Thanks for the advice.

Don't waste your time and start looking for another job. I believe there are opened work places for your qualification and you will do fine. Don't give up and most important - don't to feel sorry about yourself, as you said - you have your daughters relying on you, loans and other duties. See these changes as a new start! Good Luck!

I'm really trying to compose myself and avoid thinking too much regarding the daily expenditures which may be left unpaid because of my current employment situation. And eventhough I'm expecting my separation pay until April, I'm trying to search for other opportunities to earn extra, either online or offline. Like you said, this change might provide me and my own family a better start. Thanks for your concern.
