Impact of music

I was just wondering if im getting old or if anyone else thinks that some music of today has an impact on our kids...THe horrible language and words of some music today..I think it was better when I was young and certain songs were banned because they contained what might have been close to a curse word...Back then I thought it was ridiculous ofcourse but is it really? I have seen young people listening to this music, driving faster, dressing to fit what is said in the songs and acting the part. What do you think? Is some music partly to blame for young peoples behaviour or does it even have an impact on how they behave? Do you think its still a good idea to ban some of it?

there are several reasons, firstly, it may be the generation gap and secondly, I think old songs are given less exposure, but I think it's more that people want to connect with the music and their lives. so it brings back nostalgia when they think about it later. so I suppose they just don't connect very much to the old songs, even though it is very good and they being aware of that.

sure thing! I'm sure you can educate about the negative effects of such dark music to your children and your friends and reap the benefits, but I just hope they listen. lol.

Thanks for responding..That is the scarey part with some of todays music. It does get connected with their lives in a negative way. I thing music has a huge impact on some people and not always for the better. Music can be of all different types and sounds without the impact of negative words.

OK, looks like I am out numbered here...lol...I dont really care what music people listen to either. TO each his own. But I do care when it effects the behaviour of people to a bad degree and sometimes it does. Its not the type of music but rather some of the lyrics that I dont like. Some is geared to do just what it does...Make certain young people act like gangsters, and they dont need any help. I have watched the reaction in some while listening to this type of music. I do beleive that music has a huge impact on some peoples lives and not always for the best

There are a lot of things that contribute to how kids act these days, what they see in the media, what they do on the internet and the music. I do not think music is directly responsible but I dont think it has no impact at all. I know when I listen to a song with a lot of bad words in it, I'll start talking to someone and I notice myself saying these words too. The music might of changed from what it was before but so have a lot of other things that shape how kids act. I strongly do not believe in censoring any type of media however. It is a way of expressing yourself. Parents who worry about their kids listening to the wrong kind of music need to put in on their selfs that they do not do what the deem inappopriate for their child. The government or any other agency should have no say in what kind of media is presented to the public.

I think music is good for people expressing what they are feeling at the time, you just have to watch and make sure your child is not listening to depressing or slow music. If so ask them if everything is alright.
