Oh my god, I loved this movie. :)
I'm also one of the many who thought that it was all hype at first, because Danny Boyle is guilty for making hyped-up films (28 Days Later, anyone?) But in some cases, Mr. Boyle also makes interesting ones like Millions (cute British movie that's more than just a "kid's" film), Trainspotting (the most underrated Boyle film), and this movie, Slumdog Millionaire.
I can see why some people would hate it. I know someone who thought that Boyle exploited some part of Indian society, but I don't really understand the whole deal. I know it's a sensitive issue, and I won't share my own opinions unless someone who has a better view regarding the issue, clears up this matter first.
I think Slumdog Millionaire can be added to the list of Danny Boyle's best movies. It's a movie that you can enjoy after repeated viewings, and I think mostly, it gave many Westerners a look in that unchartered territory called Bollywood. I think there are many amazing Indian movies which are still unknown to many. I'm not from India but I've watched a lot of great Indian movies like Sanjay Leela Bhansali's movie called "Black", this gangster flick called ""Satya", an old movie called "Devdas" and an even older movie called "Awara". These films showcase the many colors of Indian cinema and I think Slumdog Millionaire represented Bollywood really well, despite its Western director.
I believe Slumdog is just as good as the hype claims it to be and I will stand by this movie no matter what. I'm even rooting for it to win the Oscar Best Picture award. It totally deserves it. Come on, would you rather give that award to that overrated film: "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button". I think it's just a Forrest Gump wannabe that is parading as a "fantasy" film. If Slumdog Millionaire loses, I'd gladly accept the fact if it loses to a film like "Doubt" and not to that Benjamin Button farce.

Thank u for sharing ur opinion....I still think it was really hyped & for me it really didnt live upto my expectations....I mean i am not against the movie...I did feel it was a good movie but i really truly didnt believe it was tht great a movie a either....I have nothing against the story...& i thought the acting of those kids playing the part of young jamal & salim was superb & they definitely has great potential...but honestly the film in totally was just an average & as mentioned above Rahman's songs were mediocre...Even he has done better...U should hear to Rang De Basanti were his songs had an impact....I would have given a thousand golden globes for tht one :D......
But this is just my view....As i said nothing against the movie & there r oodles of people who share ur opinion...As for Benjamin Button, yea it did remind me a lot of Forrest Gump...Button is definitely an overrated movie

yep i am totally in favour of ur statement. The movie slumdog millionaire is not that all great but actually the way those people in the developed nations think of India is shown in the movie. They think India is still that poor and they think that one of their directors has done such a great job of showing reality. If the same movie did not have a foreign director the movie wud not have won a thing there. Also A.R. Rahman has given a much better music in rang de basanti than in the movie but it is all hyped n aall

Yea even i dont really understand wat the hype is all abt? i liked the movie but i cant say i loved it. It didnt really move me as it should....I think the story had great potential but it wasnt justified as it should have been....I actually enjoyed the first half of the movie coz i really felt the spirit of the kids living in those slums...I felt like running around & freak out like they did :D....Leave all tht controversies apart, I really didnt feel the movie is worth all this acclaim....But i must say there is something abt this movie tht everyone including us, who think the movie is a mediocre, is talking abt it :D
Thank u so much for sharing ur views

Hi Jismol!
Finally, someone who understood that slumdog is really not worth the hype which was created. Undoubtedly, it is a good movie but maybe not as much as worth the kind of acclaim it has got. There have been better movies. Adding to that even the music was mediocre, I have not found anything groundbreaking in it. Rehman has done better before!

Yea....My sentiments exactly.....Even i found it to be a mediocre....Even i cant understand wat aspect of it is tht great as everyone claims it to be:)....I did love the acting of those kids shown in the first half of the movie playing as jamal & salim...They were really great....I am not against the story or anything....I have no problem accepting the fact tht we have slums in our country & as shown in the movie, they r not sad abt it, sitting around waiting to die or something...I think they might be the ones who live their lives to the fullest...But thts a different discussion altogether:)....
And yea Rahman's music were just an average....Not worth an acclaim....I was totally bowled over by his music in Rang De Basanti....Tht movies essence were his songs....We could actually feel it....But this....Well, i dont know wat to say...As an Indian i am proud & happy for him for getting nominated in oscars & also getting the golden globe....Thats all i can say really....Thank u so much for ur opinion:)
