We don't like using the word "chore" because we believe it holds a negative connotation. We prefer to call what they do their responsibilities, or part of their routines. So, when people see what they do around the house and ask if they mind doing chores - they say, "we don't have chores." It's interesting to see the conversations spark from that.
Anyway, do your kids have chores?

Yes, my children have chores. They may not like it, but they know that they have certain responsibilities that they must fullfill around the house. They do not get an actual allowance each week, but they do get special treats when they have done their chores without fighting with me, or each other about them.

I guess my kids have both chores and responsibilities. They have some things that they do to earn their allowance like cleaning their rooms and putting dishes away. Then they have other responsibilities that make them part of the family like when we are hauling wood for the woodstove, taking care of the animals, or doing something that we are all working together to get done as a family.
