Hi everyone. I've always been really interested and curious about hypno but I've never tried it. I've always wondered if it really works. Can it really help you quit smoking, can it really make you get rid of your phobias, lose wieght, etc... Has anyone here ever tried it? If so share your experience with me please...

Hypnosis is a powerful tool for self change. It was accepted by the American Medical Association in the 1950's as a viable treatment method. It is not a philosophy, or something to be believed in or not. it is a medical fact. Whether it will work for a particular issue depends on many variables. Hypnosis does not demand that you surrender your will to the hypnotist. In fact, hypnosis doesn't work with the will at all. If you desire to make a change, hypnosis can help you change your focus and to become more motivated toward your particular goal. In my 18 years of experience, I have found hypnosis to be very effective for weight loss, help people get past fears (like public speaking), become a better test-taker, reduce stress, and so many other things. I would like to suggest that if you decide to hire a hypnotherapist, be more concerned about reputation than credentials. I say this because the average MD gets no training in hypnosis, psychologists usually have very little training in hypnosis (unless they seek it out), and counselors rarely get classes in hypnotherapy. People trained specifically in hypnosis will usually know more about hypnosis that all of the above. There are a few, rare MD's and Therapists that are specially trained in hypnosis techniques. So ask around, get references, and find someone who is trusted and who gets results from their clients.

I've never been hypnotized either, but I have read about it and done some research on it. Visit our homepage at www.elliotwineburgmd.com

Hi natromana, Like you I've always been interested in hypnosis but have never tried it. I am not interested in stage hypnosis but in the ways that you suggest. I know that it does work for some people for such things as weight loss and to quit smoking. It appears that some subjects are better than others and that's why it doesn't work for everyone. Blessings.

I have read a few books about hypnotherapy and strongly believe it can help with many ailments. Anyone can be hypnotized the only key thing is that the hypnotists knows what they are doing. My boyfriend went to a hypnotist to help him stop smoking, it helped him and he was able to quit for a short while. Although I strongly believe in the powers of hypnosis I do not believe that is a quick fix to anything. You cannot just be hyptonized once and expect everything to be the way you want it. It takes work and many sessions to get desired effect. The book I am reading about is by a very cocky author who does believe with a very well trained hypnotist mircalous transformations can be acheieved in one visit, I have to read up on this some more because I do not truly believe it yet. Hope this helps.
