Hi everyone, I'm new. Does anyone have any good ideas to help me help my daughter stop using her pacifier? She is 5yrs old!! Her situation might be a little different than the usual. She went through some very emotional trauma when she was 3 and it's been like a comfort to her. She is much better now so I'd like to get her stop using it. She doesn't use it during the day anymore because she started school but she still wants it at night. Any suggestions?

Taking the pacifier from any child is difficult... but being at her age, she's gonna be little more tricky...
Some little tricks might be easter is coming up, and if your a celebrater of the easter bunny, you can wait til she goes to bed, and most children at one point in night will let it fall out of their mouth, and go in and take it from her and when she wakes up in the morning say oh goodness, the easter bunny took it but left you this, and show her basket or what ever you (the easter bunny) got for her and that might keep her mind off of it... it's gonna be a hard first few days but the more she's with out it, the more she will forget about it.
The might only be aiding and abetting to the habit of needing a comfort thing... but have the easter bunny if that's the route you take, get her a stuffed animal, or blanket and tell her that that's her new sleeping buddy...
After taking it away, it may take a few extra bed time stories, or a little more of cuddling time at night but it'll get better and easier.. Good luck!

My daughter is 7, nearly 8 and she still sucks her thumb so perhaps I am not the best person to offer advice. At least with a pacifier though you can physically take it away from her.
I would suggest talking to her about it and explaining how she is a big girl now and pacifiers are generally for babies, not big strong school girls. Perhaps get her a special new toy to cuddle up with at night and set up a reward chart. Every night she goes to bed she gets a star or a sticker and when she gets 5, 10, 20 etc she gets a cool little reward.
Good luck with it :0)
