And if you do, does it aggravate you when it dongs every half hour or is it the most pleasant sound? If you don't have one, is it something you would like to own?

hi there, I would someday like to own a grandfather clock. I don't think it would aggravate me, after while you get used to the sound of it donging, I think i would miss it more than anything if it stopped. ~proudnana~

I wonder if there are Grandfather clocks that actually have a volume adjust. That would be sweet. And you're right, when I stopped winding up my clock I started missing the sound of the chimes.

We don't have the room nor the money for one of those right now. It would be something nice to have, but at this point in the lives of my husband and myself, we can think of hundreds of other things that would be more practical to have in the house. They are nice to see in other people's houses, though.

Yes, I wouldn't recommend anyone investing in one of those right now. It's a luxury for sure.

Wow, the Manor House is absolutely gorgeous. Thanks Shepherd. A grandfather clock and a fireplace. What could be better? Well, maybe chocolate.

Hello my friend gtargirl Ji, So nice that you brought out this topic. One of my collegue during my service career did have a shoe, which belonged to his grand father, I have two of my steel trunks and a wooden box, which come from our great grand father. Recently, after using my wrist watch for the past 30 yrs or so, I gave it to my son, who would present to his son, when he would qualify X std. I have some books belonging to my grand father, and at times, I refer them while teaching my grand children. may god bless you and have graet time.

Hehehe, well that was short and sweet, my friend. I guess you don't own one or are interested in acquiring one.

Nope, we don't have a grandfather clock. One of these days I would like to own one. Can you turn off the dong every half hour or hour?

Yes. I have a grandfather clock. The only time it gets on my nerves, is when I am trying to hear something or if I am on the phone and it keeps on donging.

I don't have one but I've always wanted one. I think they are so elegant looking and I've always dreamed of having one. Maybe one day... ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG AND TRUST IN GOD**

I don't own one, nor do I ever plan to get one. That gong sound is very aggravating to me. While I was growing up friends of the family had one and whenever I would go to their house the darn thing would scare me terribly whenever it would go off. Nighttime was even worse as I found it rather spooky when it was dark out. But just remember I was only a little kid at the time. Although I find some grandfather clocks quite beautiful I don't think I'll ever get over that sound. Because of this it's turned me off of grandfather clocks.

Nope. I have a little clock, that makes a lot of noise. And that itself is irritating. A grandfather clock would drive me up the wall!hahaha! I like seeing them. But, I would not want to have one. Oh my, I did it again. It is 6:30 am here in Berlin. I have been up the whole night. Time fly's when your having fun. My BF should be home any minute. I better get to bed and sleep before he gets in, hahaha! Groetjes, welterusten voor straks.

No i don't have one but we do have clocks that chime as my partner collects them. I have made him turn off the chimes as they drive me crazy. My partner would love to get hold of a grandfather clock. But if i have my way that will not happen. My dad's house is worst he has about four different clocks that chime the hour and half hour. He also has one that chimes every quarter of an hour. The nosiest one he has is his titanic clock as when it goes off it is a ship funnel and then cries of seagulls.

We don't own one. Currently, we are living in a town-house style condo. While the square footage is decent for a condo, there is no one room in which a grandfather clock would 'fit' - either in style or in size. I would eventually love to have a house that could hold both a piano (upright would be fine - no need for a grand or baby grand) and a grandfather clock. I think, though, that finding a nice grandfather clock these days might prove to be difficult. Most of the ones that I have seen for sale are made from cheesy particle board cabinets and only have the appearance of a grandfather clock without the function (pendulum, chimes, etc.). Sleeping without dreams in peaceful - living without dreams is dreary.
